Default 350Z fan wiring (power/Ground)

My factory cooling fans died, so I replaced them and cut the harness, giving me the old fans with the clips and 6" of each wire. I've been kicking around the idea to use the 1 good fan for something, then I realized I need an attic fan. I went thru my closet and found a 12V power supply. I already have an outlet wired-in near the spot im gonna mount the fan.

I've been searching online for any type of diagram to see which wires are what (ie, ______- Power, ______ - Ground)

Can anyone chime-in or at least post a link showing which color wire is what? And also, how i will need to connect them to a 2-prong cord. I'd like to think the black wires are ground, but the other 3 i'm totally not sure. It'll be the passenger-side fan i'll be using but that don't matter b/c I noticed the wire clips are interchangeable.

I am posting this in hopes of assistance, but also in hopes it sparks some creative ideas for other people to use salvaged parts as something interesting.

Thanks for any input.

Nathan

Checked the diagrams and saw nothing mentioning the wire colors.

there are plenty of fan install threads on here...with wire colors.

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...-wiring-2.html

with that thread, the FSM and having the parts in hand you should be able to figure it out.

BTW, how are you going to power the fans in your house? Do you have a AC/DC converter that can withstand the inrush of a fan?

I can't hard-wire the fan to an AC plug from a cell phone? It's 12V.

Plus, all that site is saying (the 1st link is dead) is what color wire needs to go to what color on the aftermarket fans. I'm simply what each of the 4 wires on the factory wires are.

No. your phone charger wont cut it. That 12volts is not AC, its DC.

Your going to need a pretty good power supply to start that motor. They can have inrush currents up to 6x their normal operating current.

really - this is sorta funny…you'd really power your fans via your 12v?

I have limited knowledge of voltage/power regulation and demands. Please don't turn this thread south. When I didn't know the answer in school, I didn't raise my hand.

It's a simple question; what do each of the 4 wires on the factory fans represent?

-Blue is _________ (Ground? Power? Something else?)
-Green is ________ (Ground? Power? Something else?)
-Black is ________ (Ground? Power? Something else?)
-Yellow is _______ (Ground? Power? Something else?)

have you not been spoon fed enough? take the knowledge you've been
given thus far and go look at your car. you will see exactly how your plugs and wires mate.

also until you have a large 12vdc power supply or fan controllee you are wasting your and our time.

A simple "I don't know" would of worked, but thanks for your concern. Find a diagram showing the 350Z cooling fan wires color AND what it does, and I'll gladly be the "spoon fed" person you speak of.

However, I think you're not aware at what you're saying because simply looking at the car will not tell me what each wire does; we have whats called a "Wire Harness" and again; limited info is being posted about what each wire does.

I posted in hopes someone that knew the answer would simply answer; not hopes of being a butt of ridicule for asking a question.

I can get it at work tomorrow but why not just put power/ground to the largest two wires and see if it spins?

You will need about 20 amps to run the fans, make sure your power supply has that much output.

All 4 seem to be the same gauge. I was worried about putting ground to power or power to ground or mixing up connections somehow and frying the motor. If there's no possibility of that (again; a noob in the electrical dept), then i'll test combinations.

Thank you for that.

first of all your not even attempting to look, where i told you to go does indeed have the wire colors listed you need to simply learn how to read a wiring diagram, if you cant then you have no business attempting something like this because it really is simple you need to know how to read the diagram first. i even triple checked myself and lo and behold ever single time i went to the site it lists wire colors right on the diagram right next to the wire, in fact its listed twice once on the relay/ipdm side and again on the motor side.

second, no your cell phone charger isnt 12v output, if its a cell phone charger its 5v output usb will be .5 amps wall charger will be 1-2.5 amps depending on the phone. not even close on voltage or amperage to be able to power a fan like that. try and send 12v into a phone and your going to fry whatever processor is in that thing since the voltage step down is in the power cord itself on cell phones, most you will find in a cell phone for voltage regulation is stepping 5v down to 3.3v.

***** please. I wired my mizu fans up. I know the wire colors. I also know that the wire postions in the patch harness change fr9m one end to the other. I know more about the 350z wiring harness than most. read the thread I linked. look at your own car.

you have a thread, the fsm and the parts in hand. you figure it out with the information given now do it lest you be spoon fed.
