VQ was the chit back in idk 03-06. Now it being so cheap and lots of other cars are faster in almost every category I want unique and v8 power. Regardless of all our fanboy on the VQ. Hard to argue displacement.

To me it's cheaper to do ls swap then bore and upgrade internal for vq.

Good luck man, I'm rooting for ya.

So a VQ37HR is slow then. I think what you meant to say is the VQDE motors are old (which it is). But last time I checked a VQ in a particular newer car can more than keep up with it's V8 counterparts even though it's down on power. Unlike the VQDE that had a near even power output of a certain target car that had a V8.

And besides, an ls swap is nowhere near unique. Everyone and their grandmother is doing it to anything they can find. There's even some crazy dude I know of trying to put an ls in his 1998 toyota camry and there's countless people already with ls swap miatas, Z's and 240sx's around here. If you want to be truly unique you better have deep pockets to swap in a high reving european V8 or a flat 6 motor. Now that is unique.

I don't think uniqueness is the main reason for the ls swap. Its a combination of cool factor and power/cost ratio. Displacement = power.

How about greater than 50% more power no decrease in gas mileage. or getting a lower center of gravity as compared to the VQ. Also you can't knock the reliability as opposed to a VQ at the same power level.

OP said he wanted unique V8 power. A ls swap isn't unique.

Coming from a FI VQ… the LS would've been a better swap.

Imo a LS1 or 2 is very unique in a Z. I understand a awd rb26 would be more unique per say but again imo. There's not one I know of in NC besides cmytailsblink which I believe he's on base pretty good ways away. But whoever said cost wise reliability stand point is correct as well. I've been a member for so long i see FI on the Z isn't even 50 50. More like 70 30. 70 being the chance it's gonna explode like a grenade.

It suffered in reliability or were you expecting more power? Most people usually say the supercharger route is a little safer (A LITTLE) than the turbo route. Idk, I didn't do any FI on my Z and don't plan on doing it so I can only go by what other people who done it say.

What I paid for the kit and supporting mods vs what I could get out of a LS would've been close in price.

That's understandable. Idk I like the stock motor. It sounds like an exotic European V8 and it's reliable. What I don't like is the weight the car carries despite it's visual size. It's like a fat chihuahua. If they paid attention to weight when designing this car it would be outstanding. Look at lotus using toyota corolla and camry engines in their cars.

OP, theres a 350z LS group on Facebook with 7 active LS swaps. Got 3 guys in the 800+hp range and a few Camaro and Vettes in the group to help spread the knowledge and info and answering questions. I know that 2 people in this discussion are actually already in the group. Not looking to take away from this site, but theres more active swaps going on and being shared than this site. Theres guys with LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, LQ4-LQ9, L92 and LS7 builds. Just another option!
