Default Quaife LSD & 4.083 Gears installed

I finally saved up enough money to get my Quaife & 4.083 gears installed. I went to Technosquare in Long Beach to get it done. I have 07 Enthusiast 6 spd so I bought the QDF 13L. I forgot to ask Howard if the unit was drop in no cutting of the axle? Anyways I was very happy with the results. I really couldn't get on it since I was driving home on the 405 fwy during rush hour. I will definitely have more driving time this long holiday weekend.

No break-in needed for the gears, assuming the lash is properly set, and since the Quaife is a clutchless diff, no break-in for it, either.

Best performance upgrade for an NA car in my opinion. Loved mine.

Default Qdf13l

I called Howard the installer at Technosquare and he confirmed the axle still needs to be cut in order for it to fit. I was under the impression the QFD13L was was a drop in unit for Z's with the VSLD? So I could have bought either the QDF13L or QDF11L? Can someone explain???

Default Driving impression

Finally got to put some miles on my Z with the new Quaife QFD 13l and 4.083. Wow what a difference!!! 1st gear is very quick...if you mash the pedal you gotta shift to second gear almost instantly unless you want to hit the rev limiter. It definitely feels quicker but that could just because you got go through the gears faster. As far as Quaife LSD goes, you can definitely accelerate out of a corner faster. It really feels like a different car. All in all I'm happy with the results. I can't wait to take it to the track or some windy roads.

Thanks again Howard at Technosquare for installing everything!!!

I cannot disagree more. For the Quaife no break-in required, a new set of final drive gears and bearings absolutely (yes you will hear old school drag racers say you don't but their only driving down a 1/4 mile track then back on the trailer).

A new set of gears driving down the high way for a significant amount of time without break-in can run a very high risk of overheating the gear lube and damaging your $1600++ worth of parts.

Also there are a lot of metal shaving that are created during a new final drive break-in that should be removed from the closed system as well (drain plug is magnetic).

I have followed this procedure on 3 different vehicles with gear changes and never 1 issue:

Not trying to pick a fight but there is a lot of money tied up with a diff and/or FD gear change. Its only $40 worth of gear lube and a little patience to have a long lasting and quiet rear axle.

Sounds like good advice - better to be safe. In my case, I kept the original gears, and after about 1K miles I changed the oil. No shavings and the magnet was clean, so no worries.
