Default RB25/26 350z swap

Hey guys, I'm new here and don't really know if this is the right place for this thread. anyway Ive been looking for weeks about rb swap for the 350z and noticed that people having problems with wiring and inspecting the car. my point is that i dont really care keeping the stock look but my question is would it be possible to swap the whole thing meaning swap the rb25\26, r33 ecu, r33 cluster, r33 emissions etc etc.. will i have any problems with all the wiring and stuff because I better custuomize the cluster to the dashboard and all that then screw around with the wires.. lmk what you guys think and know im pretty new to all that I just dont wanna do things and then regret it, I like to do it the right way
Sean

It seems pretty obvious that you do not have experience with engine swaps at all and this type of swap that you're wanting is not one that you should even dream of starting with. Without writing a whole long thing on why, just don't do it.

Welcome, but if you're new to the Z33, save yourself from multiple headaches and forget about an RB swap. The Z33 has a fully integrated CAN electronic system with ECM, ABS and BCM all working together. You cannot change one component and hope any of it will work properly. Even experienced builders know this will be an expensive, time-consuming project that will keep the Z off the roads for months. Even if done correctly, such a swap will also result multiple CELs making it unsuitable for a street car having to pass emission testing.

I too have dreamed about this swap. Eventually came to the realization that doing a single turbo on the vq will be cheaper, less headache, and still make a ton of power. In short, don't do it

Why single turbo though? I'm currently buying parts to do a twin setup next year this time. I just bought the greddy turbo back exhaust at the greddy garage sale for $800 and next year at their next garage sale buying their twin setup. They had it this year for $3700 new!!! Normally $8700. I didn't bring my credit card with the larger limit on purpose or I would have bought it. Lol. I still have their whole garage sale list from this year if anyone cars to see it

I say a single just for personal preference. Faster spool, less complicated piping, and more than enough power I would care to use being that I drift the z. If I had an HR motor however, then maybe I'd do a twin turbo setup. But now that you mention a twin turbo kit for $3700... well, lets just say I'd consider it

RB's are finicky motors. 2J & LS's are better options as parts are all over easily accessible. As for twins vs single a lot can determine which way to go. For ease of maintenance a mid mount single is by far the easiest to work on and manage etc.. Twins would be IMHO the best OEM like setup with minimal piping. For example cracked manifolds are part of the game regardless of platform so the little things just need more attention to detail.

I swapped a T8D into a geo metro and just moved all the engine wiring harness/actual ignition(used two keys one for geo lights/fuel pump and on for engine/ecu/cluster(well screwdriver) and part of the fuse box. You wouldn't HAVE to integrate it into the 350z wiring to work as long as it gets fuel/power
