Anyone know the length for our Z33 trannys, bellhousing face to prop shaft flange or shifter? Been searching high and low, looking for it in the FSM and i cant find anything

Ive swapped the VQ for a VH45DE, im currently using the stock transmission but need to swap to a tranny from another car, not a 350Z. This is due to regulations when registrering it to be road legal with the VH. Reason i want help with the dimensions is im looking at different tranny options. The Z32s trannys are popular but around here theres none of those and plenty of R32-R33-R34 Skyline trannys. Same tranny, different bellhousing and also those trannys have their shiter mounted internally. All of this makes me wonder where the hell the shifter ends up. Ive shorted the Z33 shifter linkage 70mm and ive found the dimensions including shifter location for the other trannys so i can sort that once i get home (working out of town suring the week but wanna prepare for the garage session coming weekend).

 

That rule seems weird, what are the criteria for an acceptable transmission? This is in a Z33 chassis correct?

Assuming no one has one lying around, is to take measurements when you get under the car, you can unbolt stuff and try to tilt the trans back a bit if you need some extra clearance, but with what youve said i dont know what your motor mount situation is.

 

Yea its a Z33 chassis.
Its truly weird. Criteria is that it should be from another chassis, a 370Z would be ideal but hella expensive. Another (weird) criteria is that it should show definite modification; to be able to register it as a 'rebuilt vehicle' you have to change the engine, drivetrain and complete brake system and it cant be to easy cause then its not a 'rebuilt vehicle'. As for brakes i cant use the Akebono's since they dont need that much modifying so now im going for VW Touareg 6/4 piston calipers and the 370Z 355/349mm rotors (wheel hub is not needed to be replaced).

I guess ill have to wait until i raise the car and get out the old measuring tape. Luckily a friend of mine still got his R33 GTST, since ive sold my 2, so i can double check the dimensions on that to make sure i dont end up with the shifter in the dash. The tranny now sits 70mm further back so its easy to get the dimension since it now clears the front subframe.

 

Damn if, I just changed my Clutch and Flywheel two weeks ago.

 

Soo i hate it when ppl ask something, find it out themselves and never get back to the thread, answering the first question, so heres what i could find measuring my tranny (still fitted) :

350z Z33 VQ35DE 2004 GT RHD manual transmission tranny gearbox length lengths length's dimension dimensions dimension's size sizes :

Bellhousing face to output / prop / drive shaft face : 29" (736,6mm)
Bellhousing to shifter : 39 3/4" (1009,8mm but possibly exactly 1000mm since thats a good number and if a measuring error was made but probably not made because Gatebil)
