Default Swap Advice 03 To 06 Or 03 to Fairlady z Please Help !!!

Hey Guys I Am rebuilding my 03 z and needed some help and/or advise on a swap. first thing is i have a bare shell (no Engine/tranny), I Been searching recently for Engine and tranny swap that are both cost efficient and Not too difficult. i Found a Few which is where some advice for you guys comes in .first, i found a full long block (engine, tranny, harness, and ecu) really close to me at a jdm spot . It Is a low mileage swap but the only thing is it came from a fairlady z(right hand Drive) . What Would Be The Steps i would have to take to make this swap successful? The other situation i have is I Found A 06 Motor Low Mileage No Harness Ecu Or Tranny For a Great Price As Well, The Only Thing Is This Motor Is out The Car Already so i cant really check it and It Doesnt have warranty Like the first. The Question is The Same for this motor , how can i make this possible , and Also Can i Use A Older Tranny on An 06 Motor? Please help !! Thanks In Advance

The tune could be different, VATS will need to be reflashed. Also a lot of the JDM ECU's have a speed limiter installed. The motor however is just a motor and it doesn't know or care which land it operates in.

Your insistence on capitalizing every word is driving my sanity away.

So just to be sure here, your shell does not have either an ECU, or an engine harness right? What about the body control module and everything else on the interior wiring, the IPDM, the steering column and keys? It sounds like you will need VATS removed by reflash regardless unless you have a matching key and ECU set.

Supposing you have all of that, then yes an engine and harness with a reflash should see you good to go.

OP posted this same question in another thread, but likes the simplistic answers here better. The real answer is it won't be as simple as anything posted here. It'll take a lot of time and money to make his Z work trouble-free and be street legal. As someone who has actually done a VQ engine swap from an '07 to a '06 Z, I have an idea of what it takes.

I was not aware of his previous posts, but he has made no mention of grabbing an HR motor. A revup into an 03 is not hard at all, especially if he grabs the harness and ecu from that year model car. He will not even need to swap the cam plugs at that point. Granted all of this is assuming a basic mechanical ability and the tools to suit.

As for legality, I can only speak for California. I know next to nothing about NY, but to be honest it cannot possibly be worse.
