Engine rebuild - discussion on capabilities
well the engine build is finsihed.
i now have 290 miles on the new engine so far.
everything seems to have worked properly, it feels alot better than the old motor ever did.
i slacked on keeping this thread updated as the final assembly started, i was to excited to get it back together to properly document everything.
so ill just finish this off with a massive picture dump.

stock rebuild with stock internals, with stock power.
not planning on throwing anything at this motor, just wanted to rebuild this time instead of buying a used motor like last time with unknown miles.
spun a bearing. on both motors.
got 800miles on this motor now, so far so good.

Kudos on listening to advice and building an engine that will be reliable. The VQ is an amazing Nissan powerplant and your experience rebuilding it stands as a good example to all the posters on My350Z who think it's either impossible or easy. It's neither of those- but having a good healthy engine (with plenty of parts to build your FI variant) makes a LOT more sense than dumping all your money into a half-assed solution. Congrats again and I hope you feel a little pride everytime you start your Z!
thanks for the credit (: made me smile reading that.
i learned a lot throughout this entire process. i was always under the impression these engines were a nightmare to rebuild. and google searching really doesnt bring up much as there are very few stock rebuilds, and no real stock rebuild threads.
after all said and done, this engine is no different than any other engine, other than the stupid amount of extremely important o-rings throughout the engine, and the slightly more complicated timing setup.
I've got 1600 miles on the rebuild now, i drive it everyday, its burns no oil now which is amazing, and it seems to have a little more pep than the other engine ever did.
the only issue I've had so far, and its not even really an issue, is timing chain rattle on cold starts, i had hoped that with all new tensionors this noise on cold starts would go away, but it hasn't. Could be because i reused my old chain, gears, and guides. It doen't hurt anything just kind of sucks that it didnt go away.
But thanks again for the congratulations, it's very rewarding to start this everyday knowing I rebuilt it all myself. I'm really looking forward to building my other engine when I save up enough to do a full build with all the goodies.
