Default Losing oil but no oil leaks

I'm trying to search for this but the search function isn't working for me this morning.

During my last oil change I noticed my low oil pressure light come on. Checked the level and it was nearly bone dry. Thought it odd so I topped it off, changed the filter, and proceeded on my way. Well this oil change the same thing happened. I've got no leaks, no oil in the coolant, plugs show no signs of burning oil, no smoke out of the exhaust. I do have spark plug gasket that needs to be fixed and is leaking oil but I can't see that burning through 5qts in 6k miles. Current oil is Mobil 1 5w-30. Thinking of going back to regular 5w-30 orr stepping up to Mobil 10w-30 to see if that changes anything. Is this normal to burn that much oil? Seems like it should fall under the TSB for oil consumption but that's for revup's and I'm a DE.

It's got me a little nervous because this morning I started the car for the first time in a week and it was rattling and had some awful piston slap for the first 3sec or so and when I checked the oil level (hadn't checked it in a week) it was sure enough low again. The previous owner ran nitrous but I haven't but did have it tuned by a shop (I've got the receipt and dyno chart from it). Other than this mornings hiccup the car runs flawlessly.

Yea...I'd be nervous. How many miles on the motor?

I'd be saving money to rebuild your engine.

101k.

I won't rebuild it. Import Parts Pro is only a couple of hours from me and about an hour from my parents. $6200 I can get a long block with bigger cams and higher compression. Couple that with a set of long tubes and finish porting my intake manifolds and I should have a fun little 300hp or close to it car.

Cool...Kyle has a good rep in this community.

That would be a fun upgrade ESPECIALLY with a BP single turbo kit

That's what I hear. Between uprev in my backyard and Kyle just a little bit of a drive, I've got it pretty well made.

Yes you do. I grew up in Austin and miss Texas.

An additional note.....I used to use Crawford Z, who was VERY active and well respected here. He and I discussed the oil consumption issue with the Rev ups....while I don't want to misrepresent his wisdom......What I took away from the conversation...was that the use of synthetic oils increase the consumption.

That couple with Dynosty telling me to use Castrol GTX 10w 40 on their built engine seems like worth mentioning to you.

Seriously don't want to start debating oil types, which has been beat to death.

Just saying it's available from Walmart for around $17 for 5 qt bottle. I change my oil very often.

I appreciate that. I've read a thing or two about it before but like most folks chalked it up to one of those one off things that won't happen to me. Think I'll go get an oil change at lunch today (it's due anyways) and have them do a 10w-40 to see what happens.

You do know there is a dipstick and it is possible to add oil between oil changes.

Is that what that yellow thing in the engine is? I thought it was a pressure release valve.
