Default Engine replace

Hey guys,

I have a 03 with 115k drift/weekend car that us burning a lot of oil. lots of smoke coming out the exhaust and feels like i'm losing power compared to the other z's I run with. So its time for a new engine. Looked at my options and seems like the easiest thing for me to do now/mid season is to get a used engine and swap it.
I know the VQ35DE is in multiple platforms so my question is are the all interchangeable? like maxima, Altima, quest, etc...

Everything I found for the z/g coupe specifically is very high millage and expensive. Only decent thing I found so far around me is one from an AWD G with 89k for $1k. I know I can talk him down but just want to know if all these engines are interchangeable or not.

Edit: Seems like FWD VQs have diff mounting points on the block (cast different). They all have the same internals, same CR. Just diff manifolds. (I think)
Still not sure about all other RWD and AWD being interchangeable once acc are swapped over.

You are correct in stating the FWD VQ35DE versions are quite different than the RWD models. Not all VQ35DE are the same, as Nissan uses different cam profiles, pistons and other internal components to power everything from a sportscar to a minivan. Your best option would be to find a used VQ from an '03-04 Z33 or G35. Is the engine from a "AWD G" from a G35X? Avoid the '07-08 models as they have VQ variants that won't fit your Z33.

That should be a suitable swap, but before you jump in, you might try doing a more complete assessment of your existing VQ. A compression and leak-down test should give you a better idea of the condition of your engine.
