Default Nismo 370z pumpkin swap

Hi all,

My car has had an open diff for the past 7 years and on Monday that will be changing. The thought of LSD and 3.7FD puts a smile on my face haha.

I was lucky enough to find a pumpkin locally from a 2011 Nismo 370z with only 18k miles! They also provide a 90 day warranty which is a plus.

Along with the differential swap I will be upgrading the bushings to SPL as well. I will be running redline in the trans and diff. so I'll be sure to chime in with my opinion.

The question I have is about the bushings. I ordered the SPL kit for the 350z. I assume since the carriers are identical the only possible variable would be the subframe bushing. Does anyone know if the SPL bushings for the 350z will be appropriate for my setup?

Any peace of mind would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jonathan

I emailed the guys at CZP and they seem to think I should be just fine. I'll keep you all up to date with how the install went, how I like the swap, and my thoughts on the redline oil.

Cheers.

Its noticeable but not really a big difference for a 6mt, but its day and night for 5at guys. I like the 3.69 but want 3.9 now.

Roger that.

The biggest benefit I anticipate would be the extra traction from the LSD. The little bit better gearing is just icing on the cake.

I hope that with the LSD, 3.7, solid bushings (vs the blown ones I have now), redline trans oil (been a long time since changed), etc. that it will make for an overall better driving experience.

The worst part of having the open diff for me is when trying to put power down while exiting a turn.. it's damn near impossible. The car already handles on rails; improving it further is very exciting indeed!

Parts won't be here until Monday so the install is pushed to Tuesday.

Not really an LSD , it's a VLSD that is a hair better than an open dif. Nissan should actually call it a VOD , viscous open diff.

When I got it corner balanced and aligned it weighed in at 3250. Since then I just subtracted the weight of stuff I removed (spare tire, subwoofers, amps, etc.).

I have not done anything drastic; I suppose some of my mods may have contributed to that number. My goal is 3000 or so.. not sure how to get there though

I have an update.

Dropped the car off at the shop this morning before school and she's still sitting there.

Contrary to what people on here say; it is not a direct swap. The output flanges on 370Z's have threads in them whereas the 350z does not. The 370z utilizes a bolt with only threads whereas the 350z uses bolts and nuts to secure the axles to the flanges.

Precision Z ordered up 370z bolts and we will see if we can make it work tomorrow.

Does anyone have any input on what we should do? Of all the posts I have gone through, nobody has mentioned this. I am using the 370z axle stubs that came with the pumpkin along with the stock 350z axles.

Does anybody have advice for me? Can anyone confirm that the threads on the 350z and 370z are the same? As it is everything is installed including the SPL bushings.. just have to mate the axles to the stubs.

Thanks in advance!!

Don't know what happened to yours but mine was a direct swap. I did the swap myself without issue. Sounds like you got the wrong pumpkin.

You could always pop out the 350 axle stubs and swap them onto the "370" pumpkin.

I watched them pull the pumpkin from a 2011 370 Nismo; if that's wrong then yes.

I am only relaying what the guys at my shop said. Are you saying you were able to use the factory 350z bolts to attach the axles to the stubs? Did you use a nut?

Thank you bud!

Latest update:

370Z bolts were required to attach the axles to the carrier. Keep this in mind if you are going to swap a pumpkin from a 2011+ 370Z!!

The car feels fantastic. The car is MUCH more effective at putting the power to the wheels. Haven't had a chance to really put it through its paces but I am very happy. I was able to do some very mild drifts on the way home.. so controllable. It's nice to feel that push after the apex instead of just spin city.

The difference in acceleration is not mind blowing; the car does however feel stronger. Had to snap off some dumb broad in an Audi on the way home.. man she drove like an idiot.

The SPL bushings are awesome.. so far no offensive noises coming from it at all. I thought I may have heard a VERY slight whine when going low speed in a parking lot but it was nothing.

The transmission is shifting better than ever thanks to the Redline oil; I'm a believer.

Overall: I haven't gone buck wild with it yet but the car feels amazing. I would recommend the swap as well as the bushings and oil to just about anyone. Just remember that the 2011+ 370Z carriers have threads in the axle stubs and that you will need to get the proper bolts from the 370Z.

Cheers!

Seeing you joined in 2015, you don't want to Dugan yourself here by doing "mild drifts on the way home." Its very close to Thanksgiving, my350z's favorite time of the year.

So you paid $400 for the complete rear differential then had to get bolts and paid a shop to install? What did the grand total turn out being?
