CD009 years?
I have researched all over the internet and I can't find solid information on what models came with CD009. Some say 2005 some say 2006 with the rev-up. Can someone once and for all tell me the correct answer?

Essentially 2005-06 for DE, '07-08 use the JK4x trans. But be careful, not ALL '05s came with the 009, you have to look carefully at the case markings.

I'm neutral, having owned both DE/HR as well as VQ37VHR so not recommending one over other just pointing this out due to the slightly higher power rating and slightly freer to rev character of the HR and VHR due to internal changes (cams and otherwise).
Good luck hunting.

Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh... you're looking for a whole car WITH CD009...... get it now. Thought you were looking for just a tranny. Well, here's a tip....and it's arguable by many but if you're looking for a Z, the "more desirable" ones are the '07-08 HR (with CD009, by extension) cars.

I’m currently on a mission to start my first engine swap into a 76 Datsun 280z & want to choose the vq platform out of popularity & the availability of mounting hardware/parts/etc. I have heard so many conflicting opinions on which is better/worth the price & I wanna hear it from someone who knows all them even if it’s behind a screen. I know that I want the cd009 trans but can’t decide if the HR is worth it or not. Please help

Make sure that whatever donor you get comes complete with the entire engine wiring assembly (or purchase/fab a new one) including the black box (ECM) unless you're going to convert it all to a standalone ECU. Without having it all, the swap goes from mundane to nightmare. The 280Z - since it already has injection - has the return lines you'll need for fuel but not sure the OE undercar e-fuel pump is adequate for the VQ - might have to look into upgrading that to a proper pump.
There IS an easier (same amount of work electronics wise but fit is easier given the inline-6 configuration) - albeit more costly - swap that keeps with the spirit of the Gen 1 Z.... RB25DET mated to a CD009 transmission using an adapter.
Or, if you wanna break the bank and still keep the S30 spirit alive. Datsunworks KN20 24v head on built L28 block with Jenvey ITB induction. The spirit of the 432Z lives!
OK, not trying to talk you out of a VQ swap as it's solid. But my choices for next S30 build are obvious. Laff.....
