Two critical issues to be considered before attempting any HR swap:
1) The mechanical components from an HR are quite different from a DE. It's far from simply swapping engines and a harness, you really need the entire front clip from an '07-08 Z to get all the parts you need. And even then, it's hard to get the ECM/engine combo to work properly due to:
2) The differences in electronic systems between a Z equipped with a DE and one that came with an HR. It's a huge undertaking and one with no simple answers. We detailed an HR swap last year with the Nissan Sport Project 350Z T2 racecar and have continued an extensive discussion on the subject here:

I got a pre-order '03 Touring 6mt in August '02 and replaced it with an '07 Touring 6mt in June '07 due to the '03 being totalled. I think the '07 is a better car in all ways. all the new car bugs are gone and I think the power is better.

man, if you are going to switch from a DE to an HR, you might as well just go from 350 to 370 just to get a bigger performance out of it. Now if you can't stand the 370 and prefer a 350, then yes, I guess the switch to DE to an HR might be worth while. I think ssawa's case is a perfect example of a worthy upgrade since his '03 got totalled, so replacing with a better car only makes logical sense.

Traded my 03 for an 08. The difference is not that noticeable but the revvier-than-DE engine is nice.
The DE has a better stock engine note but maybe that's just me. Other than that, the HR is incrementally better than the DE.
