I don't think it's a common problem can I ask why you need to replace it? You could look through the FSM and see if they mention it. on my quick look through I didn't see anything about program it but it seem like nissan consider the valve body and TCM one unit.

 

What year is your car. 05+ the Valve Body/TCU is internal (together). I know 03-04 was different and tcu was external. 04.5 another TCU change happened. Just make sure it is the exact same year as your car. Nissan lnfiniti went through a huge amount of changes from late 02-07. TCU is one of them. It's like every year they needed to change something or redesign it like the Germans.

when i swapped out my trans for one with less miles due to my VB/TCM failure, all that was done was bolt up a new trans and it was good to go. I didnt need to reprogram anything.
