Default Engine RPM at speed

The girlfriends 350Z is turning just under 3000 RPM at 75 mph. This seems very high, since my car's motor turns about half that fast at 75. What rpm should a 350Z be turning at 75?

Thanks,
Jeff

She has an automatic transmission. I don’t know which variant, though.

you didnt say what car you have, heck my car at 80 mph runs about 1750 rpm

depends on gearing and the car

In the first line I said it was a 350z. I see now that I omitted to mention it Is a 2004 350z.

In the case of the AT 350Z- it is a 5 speed with a 3.3 final drive, so yes what you describe is normal for that car and that decade. Most current ATs have 8/9+ gearing or CVT so yes, a lot has changed in 17 years.
