AT or 6 spd?
I drove the 6MT first with intentions of buying it. I'm not sure if I drove one that had problems? I didn't like it after having a 6MT single turbo supra for 7 years. Regardless, I chose the 5AT and I am very happy with my choice. For a daily driver in traffic it was a no brainer. Plus having the ability to manually shift is great.
As far as power differences, I would guess it is about 3% which is about 8 hp. Hardly noticable if at all.
I would drive them both and make your own decision.

Now is it really necessary to resort to childish behavior? Come on now, you have your preference I have mine.
All he needs to do is find out his own preference and he will be just as happy as you and I am.
No need to turn this into a pissing match.

They only make the autos for those who cant drive a stick, cuz at that point when u have the auto ur going for looks and not performance. I enjoy having both, but maybe im just a crazy as$hole like the others on this site. I talk on my cell phone all the time without a handsfree set, when u gotta shift hold the phone by your head and shoulders, simple man. 6MT, F the autos man, takes the fun outta life, o yea and Veddic Jack this.

the 5AT is a fast car. No question. I think overall it's not so much
speed that seperates the 2 transmissions but personal driving tastes.

Depends on how you wanna look at it. Based strictly on horsepower, most of the dynos for the 350Z have shown a range of ~220rhp to ~240rhp, made by both 6SPs and 5ATs. (Yes theres always exceptions but this is what I have observed.)
Then if you look at 1/4 mile times theres quite a range as well . . . from ~13.7 to ~14.5, depending on track, driver and other variables. But I think with all things being equal the 6SP will inch out a couple tenths of a second from a 5AT as well and a couple mph trap. (Again theres always exceptions and these are averages from whats been posted on this site!)
So really its all gonna come down to preference.

AUTOMATIC is my tranny of choice. Yeah, the young kids have to have a stick to show off. But in the city, you MUST have the 5AT. This is so-o-o-o fast, and is definitely not your father's automatic. The 350Z automatic transmission has more unqiue patents than you could imagine.
When I want to have some fun on a country road, I just flick my bad boy into manual and blow away every car on the road. I have had my 350Z with the 5AT for a year, and would never want to have a manual.
