Stroker Kit
I was just thinking about the new VQ40 (4.0L) that is in the new Frontier and Pathfinder, which is basically a stroked VQ35. Wonder what the VQ40 and the revised VQ35DE (for the '05 Track and 35th Anniversary) have in common? Could you drop in a VQ40 with the proper pistons & heads (11.5:1) cams/injectors/ecu etc. and come up with some serious torque and with proper balancing possibly a high enough rpm to create respectable hp and the top end?
well i think the VQ40 could work alright, but you'd definetly need either a ECU flash or piggyback and possibly an upgraded fuel system.
Otherwise, if it really is nothing but a stroked VQ35, all the standard VQ35 parts should work in theory.
I'd rather just get the stroker kit and not only make more power with 4.3 liters, but be forged internals etc

Yeah could both be right. Would be nice to find out if anyone knows the similarities of the VQ40 & VQ35DE though. I’d like not to just drop a VQ40 in place of, but rather do all the nice things you can with a motor out of a car before hand. Or get the new 300hp VQ35DE with the beefed up internals and do the same thing.
It's funny how you continue to change your plan on what to upgrade first. I was going to slap on a ton of aftermarket bolt-ons and try for "more power" but as I read these boards, I learn what's useful and what’s not, what you need to do for some modifications to be effective and so on. Now I'm going to concentrate on suspension (handling) and drivetrain. Then, later focus on a built up NA motor.

yeah i've changed my plan about a million times now
was all NA bolt ons
then NA bolt ons w/supercharger
then screw supercharger, the APS kit looks badass
then NA bolt ons an nitrous
then that APS kit looks good
then all NA motor with stroker kit
then back to APS or NA w/nitrous again
etc etc etc
now it's built stroker kit with big nitrous
