That is exactly why I keep telling the people on Maxima.org not to use the VQ30 heads if they want to do a VQ35 transplant. The VQ30 heads have smaller intake ports and use 36mm intake valves wheras the VQ35 heads use 37mm valves.

Looks like the avenue to go for the people wanting to attempt 1k rwhp. However likek other ppl mentioned, there's gonna be a point where your going to have to probably end up doing a 9" rear end and possible chassis re-enforcement if you actually try to run say 20+ psi on such a motor. Hell I think even at 15 or so psi, you'd probably still be capable of turning out 600-700 wheel. Wonder how the tranny/diff/driveshaft/axles/would like that?

I would wonder if adding the VQ40 blocks will make that car a VQ4.5 or something with a little more power?

Definitely buy a bike. Theres nothing like going from 0-60 in 3 seconds. I have a 98' CBR900RR and theres not a car under six figures that can touch it.

A bike is not the same as a car when you crash. Stay safe my friend

I want to see some dyno sheets before I shell out cash. Do we even know if it is going to produce a lot of power? For all we know it could just give us a hell of a torque curve. Stroking a 4.6 (mustang) to a 5.0 doesn't really give HP, just makes the torque curve sick. I wouldn't mind only gaining 40 with it being all before X RPM than gaining 60 with it being mainly above X rpm.

well i think that the high end tourque would suffer even more and drop off faster but i have to see the car first. anything can be solved with Fi but that would end up being very expensive. Also i wonder if the 11to 1 compression kit is able to take some forced induction like bluefish's car?

it seems z1 performance can get engines worked for well under $4000 complete.

i may just be a noob, but that's a great deal!

Sausage, I appreciate the sentiment but we are talking about two different things. The kit in this thread is fabbed by AEBS and their MSRP for the entire kit (4.3L) and sleeve install is 7800. That price includes everything from them while the thread you are referencing isn't a full kit. Also, this is a 4.3L stroker not a 4L.

Even Z1 will tell you this as they have already posted here in this thread and said that they are an AEBS dealer.

Thanks for the concern!

i'm just a smartass; sorry if i commented out of place. the kit being offered in this thread seems to be explained straightforward... and is the real deal.

i have concern for people that spout price figures and other info with no real plan to do said work. z1 can throw around things like stroking out a motor for $3500, but who is going to do it for that price? ...i'll personally smoke a dried dog turd through a one hitter if just one impartial person gets it done for that rate.

I agree that price is fantastic, but Z1 is a good bunch and provide very reliable information. I would not be surprised if they could pull it off. However, the AEBS kit comes with the backing of the AEBS company name. They develop many such kits for other racing applications and their kits are very high quality. Everything is forged! Read some of the posts in this thread and you'll get a good idea about some of the reasons this kit is so appealing (maintaining stcok rev limit, high limits with a turbo setup, etc.)

The point is, z1 was talking about boring the motor, not getting it "stroked out" for $3500 (i don't think you can "stroke out" a motor btw :P). Like syfon said, you're mixing up two entirely different projects. Boring the engine out to 4.0L isn't going to be nearly the same as installing a stroker kit that yields .8L increase. The stroker kit is supposed to have much higher tolerances for boost. So if you were to opt for the low CR kit, you could have much more boost than with the unmodified VQ. Boring the engine out to 4.0L isn't going to have any positive effect on the amount of boost it can take.

i know the other thread was about boring the motor out. i did not mention a comparison for boosting or not... i don't know why you mention that. i guess you think i don't know the differences in low compression used for boost VS high compression for N/A. i don't give the slightest ish about any of that. the point is, z1 is full of it when he said he could have a vq bored out and work the pistons all complete for 3500.

the project in this thread has a believable price, the other does not. you can strap on whatever amount of rhetoric because my terminology is not totally perfect, but i suspect you know exactly what i am talking about. bottom line is that you cant bore out a motor and work almost all the internals for $3500. you could however do it for a couple thousand more.

you can pick it apart all you want... in the end...

the crap mentioned in the other thread can't be done for $3500. conversly, the crap mentioned in this thread is completely feasible.

I am not full of it at all - it is not all that complex to be honest. Stock crank, overbored pistons, forged rods hardware and bearings to suit....there is no way it should cost more than $4000 to do it. I know what our machinest charges on this because we have talked about just the very setup for a customer. How much someone else in another part of the country would charge is something else altogether. The 2 other factors that the AEBS kit (and yes we are a dealer), that the "leser expensive option does not have is sleeves (around $2k give or take), and a crank (around $2500).
