Default How long will my engine last

My car has 8000 miles and runs great (besides common '03 350z problems. tranny, idle etc). I picked it up with a few hundred miles on her already. But I did buy her brand new. I do have fun with this car. However, I take precautions. I use 5w30 mobil 1 syn w/ nissan oem filter. I also change oil every 3k. I dont start driving hard until the car is fully warmed up. I dont redline it everyday, but I do floor the car a lot. I bought it to have fun.

My car runs great now at 8000miles. My concern is that it will run like $hit down the road considering when I purchased it, it had 700 miles on it already. What do you think? I did buy a 6 year bumper to bumper warranty just in case. The car also runs very fast.

Should I be ok? Am I over reacting?

if/when it does die, its safe to say itll be past 6years. thats why they offer it. they are able to make a hefty profit on those rebates, your simply betting that your car has a massive failure in the next 6 years.

should be able to get many many years and 200,000miles on it before any big problems come along.

24,000 miles here, and still going strong.
Oil changes every 3k miles and I do every scheduled maint. suggested by Nissan. I have the typical issues everyone else has with the 03's. Im on my 2nd transmission and 3rd set of front tires; other than that, I love my car.

extended warranties are a joke if you ask me. Better really read the fine print. Usaully only covers engine and tranny which always have a tendency to go bad just right after the warranty. I think is some kind of voodoo. you buy 6yr 70k goes bad at 71k, but 10yr 100k it goes bad at 101 or 10yr 2months. I wouldn't spend the extra money IMHO.

I can't vouch for the VQ, but my first car was a 91 240sx. I had nitrous on it (used sparingly) and I drove it pretty hard. I got
rid of it at over 200,000 miles because the factory clutch was starting to slip. The only factory parts that broke were the water pump and the neutral safety switch.

There have been MANY Documented cases of VQ's going well over 250,000 miles....

My problem is that my car had 700 miles on it when I bought it. Thats what scares me. But damn, 250k is impressive
Do all VQs have molly-coated pistons

Eh, you'll be fine.

The reason things seem to fail right after the warranty is because they are designed to. It's not a conspiracy or anything, just that everything will fail eventually. When designing something you have to choose how long you want it to last and design it accordingly (or you design it to fit within a cost target and then determine how long it lasts). Actually, it's usually a mixture of both.

In any case, by the time a product is done, you will have a pretty good idea how long it SHOULD last on average, but you don't really know how long each individual sample will last. You therefore pick your warranty to expire sometime before the chosen life so you don't get stuck fixing things that you knew were going to fail anyway. Obviously, the longer you can make the warranty and still not have to fix things the better, so the more accurately you can predict life the better.

If you change your oil and air filter your engine should last for a very long time. Usually, the engine fails somewhat gradually anyway (cylinder wall become more and more scored, compression isn't held as well, emmissions become more and more difficult to pass).

I wouldn't worry too much about it, just keep up with the maintenance.
