Ive had my car for almost 2 years and every so often the 3rd gear would grind or not go in to the gate, but that was very few times, so I thought it was me. But yestereday i took it to the track, and I just got emberassed. I did 1/4 mile 10 times and 6 of those times, i got higher than 16 secs, because 3rd gear would NOT ENGAGE. So I pulled in the parkin lot and just started playin with it, and at a stand still it would not engage sometimes, so Im def bringin my car in next week. It just sucked cause i made the z look bad at the track

Don't fret, in those circumstances I would just fake a seizure in the middle of the track.

Problem solved.

Yup... our trannies are embarassing us!

It's true, no matter what speed we're going... shifting fast (say from 3rd -> 4th) is very difficult. My wrist hurts because of it. It's like this shock I get from playing tennis without the absorber on the racket.

My quartermile times were bad because of 2nd gear lock... I'd hold the clutch down and managed to get in 2nd by the time revs drop below 3k. If i shift a lil slower, no lock.. and quartermile times are upper 15s :-(

Sometimes it pops out of gear in 2nd and grinds... very embarassing.

Recently I tried to quickly downshift to 4th and couldn't get in... so all I got was this nasty grind with burnt smell.

Argh! What I do now is force the sucker in no matter what since it's frustrating, and I need a new tranny eventually.

These days, I just baby this car because I barely have much fun driving it anymore. :-/

I get this, dont like it at all.

Also, there is a quiet "thump" that resonates through the car right as I am putting it into first gear. It doesn't seem to do it everytime, but occasionally after the car has rolled a bit from the previous engage. Anyone experience this?
I thought I was the only one with this issue. It also happens in my brother's S2000. Not sure why or what causes it.

Hey guys, I love the new Z and I was thinking of selling my car to get a Z but after reading this thread I am scared to death lol. How many people have this happen? Is this an eventuality or just bad luck that happens to 20% of people? Like how many people get this?

I have also heard about the Throw out bearing making noise, the tires feathering, rotors warping, wheel sensors dieing easy, etc. Is this car worth buying? I mean how many of you have had all these problems? How often do they happen? I don't want to buy a car that will have me at the dealer everyday. Thanks in advance for any advice.
