NISMO clutch and flywheel question
My stock flywheel and clutch are gone and after finding out that a new stock flywheel from Nissan costs $950 ( no , thats without work I asked 3 times ) I am considering going with Nismo...
Im a little confused though..
I know I need :
Nismo Flywheel
Nismo Clutch Disc
Nismo Clutch Cover
but what about pressure plate ? is that the same as Clutch Cover ? or is it additional part ?
also if anyone went with Nismo Flywheel - Clutch , let me know how the Z feels now... thanks

The general consensus around here is that the Nismo flywheel isn't really worth it. Most people will tell you to go with the Jun or JWT flywheels. You can usually pick either one up for around $450 or less. They each weigh 14 pounds, while the Nismo ways 21, and the stock weighs around 30. (I believe these numbers are correct, but may be off by a pound or two.)
As far as clutches, you might also consider the JWT unit. Might be a bit cheaper. For exact part numbers to get, you should contact the shop you're going to purchase from. You might consider purchasing from Performance Nissan. Check here for their clutch/flywheel page:

They can definitely tell you which parts you'll need. Some people around here have started getting the Tilton clutch/flywheel combo, but I believe that's a bit too aggressive for most folks. Extremely light with a very high clamping force and not much modulation. Good for all-out performance, but not so good for daily driving.
Hope this helps.

I am using the Nismo clutch and flywheel on a G35, where the stock assembly is heavier than the stock set up on the Z. The results were excellent, much crisper shifting and better rev response, and it still has one layer of sound damping so you do not have the cement mixer grind at idle at a stoplight. It is a "no brainer" to do this rather than the stock, as the cost is the same and the performance is much better without sacrificing streetability.
The JWT is lighter, but there is a lot of weight further out from the center, so based on that weight distribution it is not as different as the absolute difference might make you think. Nevertheless, it is a good unit.
The Perf Nissan boys have been working hard on a street version of the tilton with a carbon clutch, and I think they have it working now. You can slip and "smooth" the engage, which you could not do before with the race clutch set up, that was so hard to drive. At 8lbs the tilton is quite something. I would contact Jason and talk to him about it, and if you can, find someone that has it to listen to it and share a ride. If you want performance and are willing to work with a bit of sensitivity, this is a good way to go.

I decided to go with Nismo clutch and flywheel , I feel much safer by going with a name like Nismo , rather than Tilton , not to put down that company but I've never heard of them before..
thx for the input ...

You will need to understand that all after market flywheel are single mass instead of the duel mass. That's why every after market flywheel will create chattering noise either at idle or moving under 2000 rpm or so. (And those after market flywheels have NO Dampening effect at all)
Nismo is a top quality product, but it weights a lot compare to other flywheels available out there. If your main purpose is just to replace a flywheel (not concerning about the performance), then go for Nismo.... if you want extra acceleration and throttle response, go for other light weight flywheels!

NISMO Flywheel w/ NISMO Clutch is only a couple of pounds heavier then the JWT Flywheel and JWT Clutch...
The lightest combination keeping stock drivability is the JWT FLYWHEEL and NISMO CLUTCH...
but the performance is no where near that of the TILTON set up...
We just installed an EXEDY Flywheel and carbon clutch...
I will post up a review of it shortly... unless jeff jumps ahead of me, we both drove the car...
no matter what flywheel or clutch you put into your car... it will shift much smoother then your stock flywheel or and clutch the day you got your car

if I was planning to keep my Z , I would consider Tilton Flywheel - theres no reason for me to spend extra $200+ for a flywheel..
So Jason... that means JWT clutch is actually quite heavy then? because if the JWT flywheel only weights 14 lbs while nismo one has 20, it will be worth while to go for what you said above... JWT flywheel + Nismo Clutch cover...

Yeah, but isn't that carbon clutch the $3000 unit? Ouch! I'd be up for the Tilton if it was decently streetable... but I just can't do $3000 for it.

Okay, wait a second, wouldn't that mean that the Nismo clutch is a pretty darn lightweight unit compared to the JWT? I just picked up a JWT flywheel, but I wasn't planning on changing out the clutch because no one could give me any valid reasons why I should. (Since I don't drag race and I don't plan to do FI.)
It sounds like you're saying that the Nismo clutch is lighter than the oem clutch *and* the JWT clutch. If that's true and the Nismo clutch is perfectly streetable, than maybe I will spring for the Nismo clutch to go with my JWT flywheel. Hell, if that's true I'll order the Nismo clutch from you guys tomorrow.
But seriously, how much of a weight difference are we talking between the Nismo, JWT, and oem clutches?

I will weight each clutch / flywheel again tommorow...
Exedy Single Carbon Disk and flywheel and clutch weights as much as a NISMO Clutch with JWT Flywheel... (30.2lbs)
advantage of the Exedy (being over 2800) is that it will last the life of the car... the organic blend disk's will not...
Tommorow expect a post from me on flywheels' and clutches... weights.. my thoughts... and reviews... (now that some more are out)...
unfortunatly I do not have the Unorthodox racing flywheel's on hand to weight, or the other OEM replacement clutches...
but in short...
best combo per dollar and performance for daily driving... NISMO Clutch w/ JWT Flywheel...
Best combo for ocasional street driver and track driver... TILTON 2disk cerametallic rally clutch package...
we DO have a single disk carbon tilton clutch available... BUT... it will only handle about 350 to the wheels (so will be GREAT for a low horse power NA car) BUT! the single disk is not going to last as long as say a nismo clutch and jwt flywheel... but it is available...
the 2 disk carbon carbon clutch will last you quite a long time but they recomend checking it every 20000 miles to make sure the disk surfaces have not worn excessivly and if they did you must make for the proper adjustments...

Good deal. I'll watch for your post. I'm extremely interested in the weights of all this stuff, as well as functionality and driveability. Seems like clutch weight is something that hasn't been discussed much here.

a lot of the more common Nismo parts are made to enhance perormance a little, but also be street friendly. In the case of flywheels, what is best for a track car, is far from what is best for street car. While a 14lb flywheel will cause dramatically better revving up, it will also rev down just as quickly, making things very jerky between shifts. Now...on the track if you keep spinning above 4000rpm, this may not be an issue, but as a daily driver it will be. The overall feel with the Nismo may be subtle, but that is also a good thing in terms of smoothness on the road. So, it really depends on your primary goal for the car.
