Question Forged internals?

First of all, what parts of our cars are forged, are the heads forged? ALso, does anyone have forged high compression or low compression pistons?

Yes i have forged lower compression pistons (8.5:1), and no the heads aren't forged. From what i know all the internals are forged thats, cranck, rods and pistons.

how much boost do you think is safe before i need to take the performance hit from 8.5:1 pistons, if i keep the pistons stock but retard teh timing a little, is it still as safe??

safely they could take about 9-10 psi with fuel upgrades as well, anything above that your playing with fate.

what exactly is the difference between forge and cast?

from what i've read on the forum, it seems that forged parts are stronger and can withstand more stress than cast parts but i still don't know what each of the terms mean. :-(

Dont like my chance but does anyone know how much stronger % wise forged parts are over cast parts?

Maybe use con rods as am exmaple? And a very ruff estimate would be suitable?

forged parts are basically hammered out of a larger piece (i dont know what i am saying) like medieval metal workers.

cast is weaker and heavier than forged, it is when you take molten metal and pour it into a die to make the part.

yea it's all about metalurgy or whatever you call it. Cast is when the molten metal is poured into a mold and cools down. Certain properties of the metal make the arrangement of the atoms different than when it is forged...Forging is when they beat it...like in the movies when they make swords...thats why they do that with swords rather than just pouring the molten metal into a mold because they come out stronger that way....usually if you have questions like that go to www.howstuffworks.com and type in your question. I learned a lot of stuff about cars and the internal workings of various engines and turbos and trannies from that site. It can also teach you about anything else you wanna learn about...
