Default No More Rasp!!!

I loved the power gained from race pipes but hated the raspy, fart cannon sound they created. So instead of spending 400 on some race pipes with inline resonators. I went to a muffler shop that made custom exhausts and had resonators welded to the race pipes after the O2 sensors

Part of the racepipe and exhaust is cut to fit the resonator

Then the flange is welded to one side of the resonator and the other side to the race pipe

For both the resonators + installation I paid $95

if you have no power loss and no rasp...

then this is definitely how test-pipes/flow-cats SHOULD be made

LSD does make a set of test pipes with resonators. Many people do not want to pay the bit of extra money to get them over straight test pipes thinking the "rasp" will not bother them. Others simply need Cats for visual and emissions testing so this option is not even a consideration for many. Glad you found a solution that also fit your budget.

The biggest suprise of this post is not how well it looks persay (looks great), but that a muffler shop did a custom test pipe setup. Not exactly something they would advertise, lol.

Actually I had the test pipes installed the same time I had my exhaust done at a Z only shop. After the installation is when I heard the rasp and found out there was nothing I could do about it. Either remove the test pipes and put the stock cats back on, or live with the rasp. I didn't want to lose the power. I got on here and found out everyone had the same problem. I saw lots of people were saying they had little to no rasp with the kinetic race pipes with inline resonators. I took a picture of them to a muffler shop that builds custom exhausts. He said the resonators on the kinetix were about 6 inches. He came up with the idea of just cutting a space in the test pipes and exhaust piping to make a true resonator fit. Smallest resonators he had in stock are 12 inches so I said, hell with it. Can't hurt. It's metal. If it don't work he can weld it back the way it was. He did the work, I took it for a spin and all i heard was the deep tone of the Stillen exhaust. Well worth the $95 I paid for the work.

Now thats what I'm talkin about! I really wanted to go with LSD's test pipes with resonators, but I just can't justify the $400. What test pipes do you have? Do you know if your shop would be willing to do another set? I doubt any shop around here would do that sort of work. Looks like a great setup man. Congrats.

I bought the race pipes from my350zforums.org, they are in Ft Worth. I believe they were either the Helix or B&B. The shop that did it is Racing And Modified Exhaust in Dallas. It took the guy just over an hour to the work. I know he would do more.

Any chance of posting a phone # for the exhaust shop in Dallas. This shop could probably sell a **** load of these resonators to all of the members who have the RASP. I went to every muffler shop in my area today after reading your post last night, trying to find a set of resonators, with no luck.
