Default Anyone use Castrol SLX 0W-30?

This oil gets a lot of praise among the folks who are interested in oil analysis and extended drain intervals.
Has anyone tried it in the Z? If so, what was your experience?
FYI - This is NOT the same as Castrol Syntec. SLX is made in Germany; it's frequently called "GC" (German Castrol).

I have not tried it but I am planning on running mobil1 0w-40. I just posted what they, Nissan (Nismo) Japan, recommends in the repair section. See Oil Viscosity tread. GC sounds like a good oil and would probably work great. I think any a3 b3 spec oil would be good. It seems from the info I have seen that the vq35 likes a heavy 30 low 40 wieght oil.

Can you refer me to the document that recommends this weight? I'm somewhat hesitant to use a product that is markedly different from the recommended weight. The oW-40 certainly looks like an attractive, choice, however.

Sure I posted the link in the repair forum. Or if you like go to the Nissan Japan site and do a search for 5w-40. It will take you to a nismo tech sheet that specs Verruspeed 5w-40. That is the Nissan brand oil.

i live in cali, and i am about to change my oil at 600 miles for the first change. Now i usually go to synthetic, but i do plan to change it out once more at 1200 miles again. What is the weight everyone uses? i usually use 5w-30 mobil 1. Whats recommended this early, and when do you change out to 0w-40 synthetic?

Since synthetic oil is thinner and has less friction. I use 10-30w Mobil 1. I think 0-30w is too thin.

I am no oil expert but from what I have read just becuase it is a 0w-30 does not mean it is too thin. As the oil viscosity is rated in a range there can be thick 30 wieght oils (almost a 40 like GC) and thin 30s ( mobil 1 ). Mobil 1 0w-40 is on the thin side of 40 wieghts but has almost every high end manufacturers oil certification. The reason I am planning on using it is that it is easy to find and is rated at 3.6 HTHS and has Z3 B3 Certs. I think GC 0w-30 also meets many of the same specs. The other thing is that from the very few UAOs I have seen it SEEMS like the heavier oils -not too heavy mind you- are producing the best results. Although there are really to few anaylsis to tell. You will probably get all the life you want out of your engine with 5w-30 but for the nuts who look at ppms of metal in the oil I just can't help myself ( ha ha )

you dont need to use such a think oil, but its what we use on the race track and the added thickness helps to lub everything very well and prob. better than thinner oil. also breaksdown slower and keeps the car cooler.
