you can always switch to the new "street" version of the tilton clutch that you will be the FIRST I will inform of the release...

unfortunatly the only "forgiving" clutches are going to be carbon carbon... the 2 disc carbon carbon is about 2800 and the 3 disc is over 3g's...

you CAN go with a Single carbon carbon clutch... it is NOT recomended for any more than 350HP to the crank... BUT... neiether is the street clutch which comes out in a couple of months...

I can get you pricing on that...

My mother was in town this week... She wanted to try driving my car...

She stalled ONCE with the new street clutch the first time ever driving a manual 350z... the first start was bumpy, but the ones after that were smooth... I have video of it I will be posting, it was SOOOOO funny....

(Also she hadnt driven stick for over 20 years that I know of...)

You guys make up a GREAT support group. If I was 20 again I might be willing to give this more time, but at 49, rattling off the line in my bitchen Z, or even worse, stalling on a hill in Laguna just isn't the image I want to project. This thing's a little too much Ricky racer for me (even though I love the noise the Nismo exhaust spits out) .....that and the fact my wife HATES driving it now. You married guys know how much weight that carries!!

I regret to say it but I'm wussin out & going back to stock as we speak.

If anyone knows someone who would like to buy a slightly used Tilton setup please let me know!! & good luck to all you bold & patient Z drivers out there with your Tilton progress

I haven't been stalling anymore. why did you go stock instead of going with a more forgiving clutch and flywheel?

Jason, what exactly do you mean by forgiving? Can you slip it more than the Tilton rally clutch, but not as much as the Tilton street clutch? Does the clutch grab a lot more than others?

fair question ltc... I went back to stock for 3 reasons: first, I use the Z for work which means alot of suit & tie driving in stop n go traffic on the freeway. I want to be relaxed and comfortable in my drive (bad enough having a stick in stop n go); 2nd, I'm already in the doghouse for this last mod & I like living indoors; and finally to satisfy any additional need for performance we squeeze into our 640 hp Pantera which gets the job done just fine!

Like I say though, more power to you guys, that rev is crazy! and now if I do get beat, I can just say "Yeah but my buddy's Z could whip your butt!"

Late...

To in form who ever you sell this kit to... everything in the kit is re-usable after it has been installed (except maybe the clutch bolts I need to double check with tilton but I think you can re-use those too)...

There is absolutly no amount of abuse you could have done to your clutch to damage it... the disc's as long as they are re-installed in the same way they were taken out of the car there will be no wear issues... the black finish on the flywheel surface may be off, but the flywheel its self will not be worn... so any one who is thinking of purchasing the kit... here is a chance to save some $...

Some flywheel / Clutch info...

JWT Clutch & FLy is really 14lbs flywheel + 19lbs Clutch = 33lbs and a almost 12" clutch
NISMO Clutch & Fly is really 23lbs flywheel + 16lbs clutch = 39lbs and a almost 12" clutch
TILTON Flywheel and clutch total 16.8lbs... and all the rotational mass is in the inner 7.25" of the flywheel... vertually no weight on the out side...

here is some more info on the TILTON stuff...

Size: = Application: = Clutch Type: = Discs: = Rated TQ: = MOI (lb-in2)

7.25" = Racing = Metallic = 1 = 310lb-ft = 44.1lb-in2
7.25" = Rally = Metallic = 1 = 310lb-ft = 54.5lb-in2
7.25" = Racing = Metallic = 2 = 620lb-ft = 66.0lb-in2
7.25" = Rally = Metallic = 2 = 620lb-ft = 78.3lb-in2
7.25" = Racing = Metallic = 3 = 930lb-ft = 87.6lb-in2
7.25" = Racing = Metallic = 4 = 1240lb-ft = 113.1lb.in2

now the Carbon Carbon clutches..

7.25" = Racing and Rally = Carbon/Carbon = 1 = 310lb-ft = 42.0lb-in2
7.25" = Racing and Rally = Carbon/Carbon = 2 = 620lb-ft = 49.7lb-in2
7.25" = Racing and Rally = Caronb/Carbon = 3 = 930lb-ft = 59.3lb-in2

JUN flywheel is 14lbs...

the weight on the Exedy is actually a little more then the JWT flywheel and NISMO Clutch... I have it somewhere... weweighted it before we installed the last one...

I understand where you are comming from Steve. I use my Z for work also, but I live in Reno and it takes me about 10 minutes to get to work. So I am getting an easier time learning this clutch. And It is getting easier and more fun to drive. But I know the first time someone tries to race me, I will end up looking like an a$$ when I stall.

I'm gonna add the ATS info here. It sits in between Tilton and rest of clutches. Cheers.

How much are you asking for the Tilton set up?

ATS makes a GREAT clutch... BUT... it is in a different class than the tilton set up...

the TILTON really should NOT be compared with the NISMO / JWT / ATS / EXEDY when it comes to performance and construction...

we are comparing a 7.25" clutch to a 10 or 12"...

not only will the RPM's rev up faster... but they will also stop alot quicker as well... which is why the car jerks soo much when the clutch catches...

think of it like catching a ball... if you throw a weight ball (called a medicne ball rite?)... you are forced to absorbe the shock by moving your whole body back or pulling your arms into your chest...

while if you get thrown a baseball, you catch it and the force isnt nearly as great and you dont have to move your whole body back or move your arms to absorb the impact... but you will feel a jolt...

Correct, but seeing how people have choice of 12" 30+lbs clutch combo vs 7.25" 17lbs clutch combo, I thought I'd bring in the 9-10" 25lbs clutch combo that adds a nice in-between choice...

please do not think i was pushing you out of the conversation or knocking you down for talking about the ATS stuff...

I was just making a genearl statement about the different class of tilton set ups when comparing them to other stuff....
