Talking Tilton Clutch & Flywheel, Nismo Diff. Installed

Finally got my new Tilton clutch, flywheel and diff. intstalled at Performance Nissan. All I can say is Damn. The Nismo Diff. is VERY nice and makes the car a little more fun to drive. The diff. is set at 60% for now and so far is very quiet. I only hear a little tire noise when I am on the gas and turning. I have only heard the diff "clunk" once or twice when turning. But so far, I am very pleased whith the Nismo Diff.
The clutch and flywheel is a blast and a pain in the #@$. Once your going, its great. The shifts are smooth and fast. The car acts almost like normal when driving. The pedal is lighter and there is sometimes a slight "cement mixer" sound at idle. Also, if the rpms are under 2500 in 2-6 gears, the "cement mixer" sound is really noticable when on the gas. The engine also revs crazy fast. The biggest thing is starting out. The clutch will kill the engine instantly when letting off the clutch. It's even harder to get going on a hill, when turning( nismo diff.) or even worse, both. You really have to learn how to drive a stick all over again, and look like a total @!# all the time when you stall at a stop light or wherever. But the car is a real blast to drive now. And I am sure it will be even better as I learn the clutch. A thanks to Jeff and jason for all the help and getting my warranty work done that my local dealer wouldn't take care of.

Congrat on the mod!

I just happened to try out Jason's Tilton earlier today. HOLY #%&*!!! We lost track of how many times I've stalled the poor Z ... mind you, I'm no beginner when it comes to driving. Sure made me look like an **** w. Jason riding shot-gun and the P'off'd car behind me. HAHA. While I'm sure I'd had no problem doing high rpm clutch drop take offs, but I was really there to gauge how friendly it is performing normal street launches. The comment about "learning how to drive stick all over again" was exactly what I said to Jason. I did start to get a hang of it at the end of a 10min. session ... although still marginal at best. Wow ... all the respect to you Tilton owners out there. That took some skills!

The eagerness to rev of the Tilton setup was very apparent upon initial application of the throttle pedal in neutral. Vrrroom ... wow! Throttle blipping for rev match and heel-toe action was immediate. Durring all out acceleration, I noticed the whip-lash effect in-between gear change were absent. Instead, it was butter smooth ... due to the less massive flywheel carrying less inertia to haul down for the next higher gear.

Have fun w. yours ... give us an update in a month or so!

hey Lovetoclown!

Glad you made it down and got everything installed and are enjoying it!

I got to drive your car... Im the one who tests out the tiltons to make sure they are working properly...

WOW am I jelous! You have pretty much the same configuration as me (intake / dc headers / high flows / exhaust / Tilton) rather then the NISMO exhaust like I have you have the FUJITSUBO... and WOW>.. its the same performance but QUIET! I some times wish my car was as toned down as yours... maybe it is my stripped interior, but mine is a hell of alot louder than yours... im thinking of making the switch actually now after driving yours... i wouldnt mind a quieter car for daily driving...

enjoy it! your car rox...

That's funny Jason. You want a quieter exhaust and I would rather mine being a little louder.

Okay, wait. So you're saying the Nismo is *louder* than the Fujitsubo? I have a buddy selling his Fuji, but I was holding out for a Nismo because I thought it was the opposite.

no no no...

FUJITSUBO = lil louder than stock (not much) and all the performance gain of the NISMO...

NISMO = Loud like formula 1 race car and the Z to be heard in Need for Speed Underground 2 (hehe)

Guys, I think I responded to some earlier (ancient) thread on this topic: What type of Tilton setup do you guys have? Can you provide me a link to the product configuration (there are more than one, I'm looking to buy the more streetable version)?

Also, what recommendations do you have for smooth launch with Tilton. E.g., drop/feather clutch at XXX RPM...

Oops, just noticed the other thread... BTW, I'm running FI. My goal is about 380whp, so the clutch combo would have to be rated accordingly. Is Tilton the answer for me guys?

This tilton set-up WILL handle the power. I plan on going FI next spring. Thats why I chose this clutch and Diff. set-up, as well as the Fujitsubo exhaust since it has a 3" dia. tubing. I do not want to do things twice.

I think you just agreed with my last post. I was asking if you thought the Nismo was actually louder than the Fuji, and you responded with "No, the Nismo is louder than the Fuji."

But dang, I had no idea the Nismo was that loud. Yuck! I always thought it wasn't bad based on what I was reading around here. I definitely do not want a super loud exhaust. Shoot, and I always liked the look of the Nismo tips better than all the others. Guess that's out of the question now.

oh I read it wrong... i think it was late and i was about to pass out... sorry

NISMO isnt that loud with the factory cats in place.. but with test pipes and no interior it is even louder!

The tilton set up that LOVETOCLOWN has had installed will handle over 690ft-lbs tq to the crank... well over 800HP to the crank... The set up lovetoclown is running is what I recomend to FI people who will be driving on the street...

And which of the setups on the website is this? I tend to save links to products and their part #s, so I can look for them later. Thanks.

Default tilton clutch setup

Ok, I made it home from Performance Nissan (40 miles) and only stalled once! I'm so proud BUT....to say there is a learning curve for this beast is an understatement. At each light I feel like I did when I first taught myself how to drive a stick. Remember; your hand gets sweaty, ya look in the mirror and hope noone pulls up behind you, watch the light and hope to hell you don't stall it out! Sure I only had one stall, but I probably had 40 sh#$y starts, rattling and jerking and revving my way off the line.

I'm gonna keep practicing 'cos it is a blast to drive but after day 1 I'm missing my old clutch & my wife won't even get near the car right now (which isn't all bad I guess )
