We dont know this for sure as I have yet to hear about it. (shifting issues with F/I and 3.5FD) I have made another post about this in the F/I section to see if I have missed something.

For what its worth, Doug did laugh at me when I asked what he thought about adding a 3.5 FD to my car. He said it was already too easy to light the tires

whosdady, you would not want to go with the 3.5 FD or anything more aggressive than the 5AT stock FD. You have more than enough power for the FD you have in the car. You would have more shifting issues with the 3.5 FD as well.

Traction is another ballgame......thats like saying you would have too much power or the car accelerates to quickly. Just have to set the car properly.......we have solutions for that proplem as well.

The real concern with FI + 5AT + 3.5FD would be shifting. The 5AT already has some issues with shifting + FI already, and climbing the rpms that much faster towards redline can't help any. Maybe with an appropriate valve body recalibration things would be different???

Wasn't there a reflash for the Infinity line to help fix some of the AT shifting issues? Did you get that reflash? From what I have heard it is not available for the 350Z.

The Z can also have the same flash done as the G. I have not done it but I have considered it. My car shifts at 6800 in full auto mode. I'm just not sure if it will continue to do so if I went with the 3.5FD?

I still have the question... if I already have the vlsd with my enthusiast model, do I need to add anything else to a 6MT 3.5? Can I just swap them out? DWNSHIFT said the 6MT and 5AT don't match? (Please explain) Also how much would the install be for something like this?

Thanks for the thread but that still only answers part of my question... What needs to be done to the 6MT FD to make it work on a 5AT? From that thread it sounds like the *best* way to do this is just swap out the entire pumpkin... but if you already have the 6MT FD what can you do?

Also DWNSHIFT, you said you were selling 3.5FD's... Do you sell the whole pumpkin and do you take trade ins?

I was only trying to help with the "6MT and 5AT don't match (Please explain)" part of the question - I figured the picture was worth 1000 words.

As for the other items you'd need to do the swap, that's much easier to answer. Open up a 6MT rear pumpkin. Everything that you see, other than the ring and pinion, is what you'd need to have on hand to complete your install. You could substitute an aftermarket differential like the Nismo instead of the stock one from a 6MT if you wanted to, though.

That's why it's recommended to just take the whole pumpkin when you do this - just about the only thing you don't need is the housing itself.

Does that help a little bit more?

I PM'd BJ about doing the same thing last week. They can build the whole pumpkin with the 3.5 ring & pinion for you on a core exchange basis if you want to do that. I never got the cost estimate for this, but it should be a little cheaper than using the 3.9 ring & pinion. Maybe you could ship your ring & pinion to them and save the cost of those parts?
