well, nobody here has really given proof that the new engines are exact replica's of the S1 engines with exaust side valve timing.
If that were the case, it would be a better engine.
All we can do is wait and we whether that is the case.
But meanwhile, it would be worth it to buy this car if you are planning to go all n/A and rais compression and Rpm Limit even more to say 7500 rpm.
But if you are going F/1 and have already bought a 350z, just build your engine? I don't know.
Will the exaust side valve timing help that much on a turbo?
Depends on what the weakest link is at each RPm. Will the system inhibit exhaust flow at lower rpm,s or just increase it at higher RPM;s?
iT seems though, that the hardware will be a lot more mod friendly.
But for those of us that already have Z's, we should wait until 2006 and see if mods are out for the 2005's that sweeten the deal,
I still think that they will make a faster Z than even this. Ithink that they will eventually release the R1 tuned engine!!!!!
That makes around 345 hp.!!!

THe R1 engine has 3 rocker arms per cylinder and has the nismo crank and can handle 8000 rpm's. I seriously think that they will offer this engine, if not a turbo version of the S1 engine!

S1. I'm just saying that there have been significant changes
done to the 2005 model engines, more than just a simple ECU
change.
Some of these changes may or may not be the same changes
on the S1 engine.

So wait, let me get this straight. THe exhaust valve timing is nothing more than a ECU change? So basicly the VQ35 comes with the hardware neccicary for vvt on the exhaust side?
If so, is this done for economy (im assuming so).

maybe i was a little vague
thats what was meant by structal improvemnets along with the ECU

13 hp seems little compared to how much it costs in terms on money and weight. just to get this 13 hp you need to shell out an easy $4k more than base price and also add 200+ lbs of weight for the track model. for $4k and 200 lbs i would opt for solid aftermarket N/A to get over 300 or go with some mild F/I a la S/C......just a thoght. Nissan should have bumped all models to 300...oh well....

The track model doesnt way anymore for 2005. Nissan has rated the 05 track at 3,225 lbs. And the base MSRP for a 2005 track is listed at 34,300.00. This is all from the nissan website.

you're also leaving out the xenon headlights, LSD, lightweight wheels that are 18lbs instead of 27, you get the brembo brakes, I think the rear wheels on the track are 8.5in instead of 8 on the base (could be wrong), 18in nice looking wheels vs not so great looking 17's, aluminum pedals, homelink garage door openers in the mirror, aero dynamic package with rear aero diffusers, and doesn't the track model have slightly less sound deadening material? might be wrong on that, but my track model is hella louder than the auto entusiast i used to drive. The track also has 245mm rear tires vs 235 on the base.
Of course all models have tire pressure guages now
3,188 lbs vs 3,225 is pretty insignificant don't you think? We're talking 37lbs here. How much do you weigh?
is the track model worth it? depends. However I got a killer deal on a used 03 track with 1478 miles in perfect condition
Factory parts are pretty much never as good as aftermarket parts. The only reason I'd consider an 05 is if it does have a different engine that's substantially beefed up to take more HP or boost. Bet you can get some killer deals on new 04's in about a month or two with really low APR rates.
Technosquare still hasn't cracked the 04.5's and so doing the 05's will probalby take even longer. I'd say stick with an 03 or regular 04 if you plan on doing big mods

the info on the 2005's is still somewhat shady i have an 03 and decided to get my car modded. injen intake and exhaust borla headers gonna get ecu soon its pretty cheap here in anaheim i know the owner of srt motorsports and he hooked me up so i think that buying parts may be a better option then more hp and less torque from dealer
