Haven't had it done yet, but this is what NRH in Jessup MD told me about their somewhat different approach to upgrading the A5T for forced induction:

They are very very thorough from what they tell me. They say they do it like Nissan would build a stronger tranny. From the inside out. NRH said they have built some 350Z A5Ts for Nitrous users. I am planning on an HKS supercharger but a better stronger A5T for nitrous or for forced induction has a lot of common issues. NRH says they go all the way through the transmission and upgrade everything that might be a weakness. Here's what I remember from our discussion. Increase clutch capacity. Stronger input billet shaft. Up the stall speed a bit to 2200 - 2400 rpms – we are to discuss that more later. Balance and blue print tranny. Add transmission cooler. Upgrade torque converter - something about a 300 M shaft. Valve body modification but not quite as aggressively as Level 10 does it. They said a little slip is good and not as much shock to engine and tranny parts. I plan to call him back and get a more complete list of all they do. He had an entire laundry list of little things they do to make the tranny stronger and give you quicker firmer up and down shifts, but not hard shifts which are hard on parts. Said the tranny could easily handle 600 hp at the level of upgrade I was discussing with them for my adding an HKS supercharger, Crawford plenum, RT hi flow cats, and cat back exhaust. I will be at approx. 350 hp to the wheels, but may add another 100 hp later so accommodating the later power increase is built into the equation we are discussing for now. They have more upgrades for people that run even more hp. They say they can fix the A5T so that it shifts in the fully auto mode before the engine hits the rev limiter. This has been a real problem with the 350Z with A5Ts sporting super or turbo chargers. They say they have a lot of experience with Nissan trannys specifically and seem very knowledgeable. Sounds like a real nice guy to work with as well. They say they have already done an A5T for an HKS supercharger (like I plan to get) as well as 350Z nitrous users. They will guarantee the auto tranny for the life of the car after their upgrades. That's all I remember from our first conversation. I'm planning to get more specific info before I have the work done. Thought some on this forum might have some feedback from me in the MD, PA, VA, WV area. I was referred to them by someone in NJ who said NRH was more thorough than Level 10 in NJ. Conceptually, the NRH approach is just what I need and want. The A5T will have quicker, firmer, shifts, able to handle a lot more power with long term reliability, but still be a comfortable shifter for the daily driver commuting in it that I do. Anybody have feedback on NRH?

i heard from somewhere our stock trannys can handle up to 400whp.....sooo i heard these are pretty reinforced trannys...good eneough for a supercharger etc...i know i heat up the oil in my tranny all the time cause i am power braking and i usually rip through 1st and 2nd gear when it is raining...cant gain traction very easily....depends on the road surface...but ive just about melted rear sets of tires at the track on bad days....gotta be carefull definatley looking into getting the valve body job and TC for the 5at....definatley sounds like guys are having alot more fun with this addons...what kind of torque converter are most people running and whats the difference if you go with a higher stall for a daily driver???

I called him and I was surprised that he said he does the work himself and only does a few per year and so doesn't really want to get into shipping trannys in and out and stuff all over the country. He mostly does tranny work for mom and pop minivans and such and only has time for performance work for a very few local people each year. In hind sight, I guess maybe I shouldn't have even mentioned this at all, but I was curious if anyone else in our area had used him and had feedback on the results. I know level 10 in NJ ships all over the world and I think their prices have already been mentioned on this thread. (Level 10 is T/C work was $698 & the Hydrosystem V/B mod was $498.)

Level 10 dosen't seem to list the 350Z, they list the following for their Level 3 upgrade:

NISSAN 200SX, 240SX, 300ZX, 340ZX, ALTIMA, AXXESS, FRONTIER, MAXIMA, PICKUP/PATHFINDER, SENTRA, XTERRA STAGE 3

Should I even be looking at Stage 3 for a daily driver?

I would assume one or more of theses Nissan vehicles share the 5AT Trans.? I see where they have the $698 and $498 those are the correct items?

I'm new don't be to harsh on me

So can you just do a TC mod? Any what is the cost for installation? I currently have headers and cats sitting in my apartment...would the toque converter be the best mod to do next for the best 1/4 mile times?

Does Level10 offer more than one stage for the VB upgrade? I have seen 3 stages of VB upgrades available. Which one is best for a comfortable daily driver who wants quick shifts at WOT?
