Difference between VQ35 and VQ35DE?
title says it all, anyone know the difference between the 04-05 Alitima SE 3.5l engine and the 350z 3.5L engine? Also, if both engines are the same size, or are interchangable that would be good knowledge to have as well

I don't know the differences between all the 3.5 liter VQ's, but I know they're all called VQ35DE (VQ is series, 35 = 3.5, D = DOHC, E = multiport fuel injection)
that whole diagram thing is pretty silly because altimas dont have carberators to my knowledge, and i know the altima has variable valve timing. The only difference i see between the two engines is the intake methodology, and compression according to some replys ive gotten
Altima and Maxima = FWD
350z, Fx35, Murano = RWD
Compression difference is from the headgasket only. The one on the FWD vehicles is thinner its 2 layer instead of 3 layer. Not a big difference. 10:3:1 vs the 350z 10:1:1

The "DE" designates two things.
D= Valve Train-DOHC
E=Fuel Delivery-Multiport Fuel Injection
The VQ35 is the same as the VQ35DE. The VQ35 is just a partial engine description. If you add the T (VQ35DET) that designages turbo.

i see, how much is alot, like to high to modify the hood for the intake manifold to fit? i'll do a little more research into the hp/tq on the altima's, see what aftermarket exhausts do to the stock performance. Why do you think stock exhaust is the power restriction

i see, well it deosnt seem like those engines are missing out on more than 10 hp, which is significant, but not enough to pour in $1000's dollars, and days of time to get. Thanks alot for your help people. If you have any suggestions how to improve the stock performacne on the VQ35 without the basic bolt on stuff, let me know i'll be itnerested

As BriGuyMax said they're all VQ35DEs, however intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, mounting orientation are different.
Also, 2-layer vs. 3-layer head gasket(doesn't affect CR), injectors are 270cc vs. 350Z 290cc, and ECU are different.
