why would they do the vlsd first? I would think they would get more interest from the open differential guys since they have NOTHING!! compared to guys that have the vlsd. IMO doesn't make sense.

Larger market interest. The poll already is proving this.
Most of those who purchased models with open diffs are not focused upon performance upgrades. Not all , but most.

It sounds like we are ordering Pho.

How often do you have to change the oil in this LSD? is it every 3000 like a clutch type?

Just out of curiosity, are there any disadvantages to this kind of differential? I remember reading something about early Hummers with gear diffs having problems when they get into "no-traction" situations. As in if there was no traction to either side, no power would be sent along. I don't remember if this applies here, though.

Not only that there are physically more number of 6MT VLSD Gs/350Zs than open diff 6MT Gs/350Zs. It would make business sense for Quaife to cater to the largest potential demographic first who would most likely be interested in performance upgrades.

Yes, that is a disadvantage with a gear based LSD. Gear based LSD's work by transferring torque to the non-slipping wheel based on a certain ratio. But if the slipping wheel has no traction at all then that ratio is worthless since 0 x bias ratio = 0 power to the good wheel. For the track that is not very likely to happen where one wheel loses complete traction unless its in the air or your running through an oil slick or something out of the ordinary. For the snow or mud a gear based LSD might not be as good.

Count me in for a #1 as very interested. I need to know the cost though. I need to know how many BCR Harness Bars I need to sell before I can afford!

What is this diff best suited for Track, Drag or Drift?

I'm a #3, but would be willing to put the 6MT r&p in at the same time to make me a #1, if that's what it takes.

Interested, but I'd like to see the price first. If it's comparable with the Nismo unit then that's good news. My OEM VLSD in getting tired.

Also being curious about the price, I went to the Quaife US website. Their existing models for other Nissans vary from $1400 to a little under $1500. Lets hope for a group buy!

... just as an update. The poll is still going and the tallies are as follows:

1. MT tranny - vLSD - 14 votes
2. MT tranny - open - 5 votes
3. AT tranny - vLSD - 2 votes
4. AT tranny - open - 3 votes

Looks like Bush ... I mean ... MT + vLSD is winning!

We're looking to have another unit sent to Quaife for further assessment. Stay tuned.

Just curious... how does one end up with option #4? Both the Enthusiast and Touring Z's with the 5AT have a limited slip. Are the G35's with 5AT an open diff or something?

Another disadvantage is the sheer number of all those gears means a relatively large amount of parasitic loss occurs compared to the VLSD or clutch types, and they are relatively heavier than either of the alternatives. These might not be very major factors for most, but disadvantages still.

The categories are about what you currently have installed on your car from the factory, not which you prefer or which is better.

Pretty sure all 2003-2004 5AT G35 Sedans and Coupes are open diff. 2003 6MT Coupes and all 2004 6MTs have LSD. 2003 6MT Sedans are open diff.
