-- Quaife LSD -- ... want one?
#62
For those who aren't familiar with LSDs and specifically Quaife gear type LSDs and are unsure which LSD to buy: I know a guy who put a Quaife gear type LSD in his Toyota and he is VERY VERY happy with the performance, reliability, and quietness of this LSD! Not just for drag strip type launches, but also for its smoothness and effectiveness in applying power to both pulling wheels in curves. He considers it quality all the way for about 3 years now (since he installed) and counting. I want one for my A5T 350 Z with vLSD, but can't afford it right now. But eventually I WILL buy one if they make it! A Quaife LSD for my 350Z has been my #1 choice of LSDs all along.

Chad here, I originally started the dialogue with Quaife, I've emailed them time to time, things seemed to be moving slow, I'm glad someone else has talked with them.
I'm in for a #2 for my 03 open diff G35 Sedan.

I had a Quaife Automatic Torque-Biasing Differential on my '95 Maxima. I think I paid about $1400 for it from Cattman in Tucson, who has exclusive rights to that particular piece. You hold one of their ATBs in your hands and look at it... it's a jewel.
The Quaife is silent. No chattering clutch plates, no gear noises. Transitions are super smooth and unintrusive. Traction is *very* much improved. No more peg-leg launches at the strip; That Quaife ATB let me put down two strips of burnt rubber, baby!
Probably the most significant handling improvement from the Quaife was my ability to carve corners. Where the stocker would hang me out to dry with understeer in the curves, the Quaife ATB would just smoothly pull me through the curve with no fuss. It made me a safer, more confident driver. Oh, and when the road got slippery, that Quaife saved my bacon more than once, too.
The Quaife ATB is simply an amazing unit. It will outperform and outlast all competing units. I think if y'all knew just how good this piece is, y'all would be calling Quaife 5 times per week to find out when they will start production on *your* ATB!
Gawd! I really miss that car...

Sorry to not have kept up the update ... my schedule has been hectic lately.
Quaife now has the donor LSD unit from us ... I will keep you all posted if I hear anything.

J/K!!!
No, everyone's still in the game. 85% of the LSD are identical across all platforms with the stub axel being different ... among the other more obvious parts.

I have a gear based LSD I just put in my Toyota truck and it was $229. It took 3 hours to install and works great. This is what we need.

I am interested in a quaife, absolutely. Running the Nismo lsd now, but if there had been a quaife available, that would be my first choice too. Thinking about a substantial engine upgrade now, so if the baby is going to be down anyway, and this is available, it would be a good time to swap it out.
