Just got off the phone with someone selling a ls6 and 6 speed out of a vette. Will the 6 speed out of the vette work for this swap? The guy said I would need the rear end out of the vette in order to hook it up. True?

I believe that is correct, the corvettes use a different driveline. You want the dropout out of a GTO, or at least the transmission from one.

it can also be a tranny from a f-body. you just gotta swap out a piece from inside the shifter.

the corvette uses a torque tube that runs from the engine to the tranny. The tranny sets toward the rear end of the vette.

Couple questions here: How about this out of an escalade as far as fitment goes? It has 2010 F-Body Manifold on it so I would guess it wouldn't be too tall.

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...872288622.html

Also, since its not a complete dropout, what else would I need to buy to complete the swap after buying Chase Bays Wiring harness and Fueled swap kit? Thanks for the help guys and sorry for all the questions...this is a large project that I haven't really come close to doing before.

The 58 tooth reluctor may be an issue (I believe mine is a 28 and not sure if that matters to match a trans). You would also want the throttle body and cable assembly. I would definately ask for the build spec sheet and contact the shop that did the assembly to see if they have a dyno and when it was assembled.

You can PM jerry87 to ask about what is compatable with what in terms of LS if you don't get the answer here or on the LS forums. I think he was a GM tech for a while.

Well, first off that Lingenfelter 58x to 24x signal converter box is a POS. Don't bother with it. You'll want to run an LS3 (08+) Corvette ECU unless you go with an aftermarket ECU. I'm sure there are other factory GM ECUs that will work but that one would be the easiest to work with. You'll need accessories like alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, etc. You'll also need to figure out fuel system and clutch hydraulics, as well. You'll also want to a TR6060 tranny over a T56 because they are a direct bolt-on to an LS3.

Thank you guys for taking the time to help me out on that. Decided it would end up be too much of a hassle for me with that one trying to piece the little things together. Just bit the bullet on a LS1 and 6 Speed from a gto, complete drop out.

Just a little clarification: E38 ECU is the one you want (07+) if you are running a 58x reluctor

E40 - 2005 (some 2006) GTO/Corvette for a 24x reluctor LS2

16238212 1998 ls1 ECU 24x reluctor

12200411 2002-2003 LS1/LS6 ECU Has a litte more computing power 24x reluctor

I have a line on a 2002 WS6 Ram Air Trans Am that has only cosmetic damage with a good engine and tranny. I can get the whole car for around $6k. I'm just wondering if that engine and tranny setup would be a good donor for my LS swap? Any opinions/advice is appreciated.

alot of 2002 LS1s had LS6 blocks (improved oil flow) so that would be a bonus. To find out you would need to check the casting number on the back of the block.

You will still have 241 heads, but its not a terrible price for the hole set up and you can still sell/part out the rest of the car. How many miles are on it?

Ihad a couple questions on the ls swap for anyone who has done it. 1. The obvious question how hard was it did u run in to any problems or have to modify the car at all to get the engine in? (I heard u just need different motor mounts) 2 would this way be safer and easier then doing a tt kit? 3. How much did u spend on ur engine?

1. It wasnt hard and didnt run into any problems other than having to mock up my own intake piping, exhaust piping, and radiator hose piping. If you can install a Twin Turbo kit you can install this motor. You do not have to modify anything on the car to get the motor in.

2. depends on the power output that you want from a Twin Turbo kit. Most motors dont last that long that are over 420-450 then you have to start looking at building the bottom end.

3. I spent $1200.00 on a lq9 long block from LKQ bare with no accessories

So what did everyone do for wiring? I planned on going with Chase Bays but I didn't know the factory gauges would not work. I also looked into sending the Harnesses to Sikky but the turnaround time is 3-4 weeks. What else is everyone doing? Any of you DIYers want to come to Cali and wire it up for me?
