I just completed a conversion to HID with the GP Thunder HID system.

The work was done by a friend of mine, who owns a shop, and it was his first 350Z conversion.

The kit I went with has 9500K (Sky Blue) H7 bulbs, as I didn't want the expense of changing out the entire assembly. Most of the kit was plug and play, but you do have to drill a 23mm hole into the headlight assembly, for the rubber cover to seat into place.

The ballast also has to be mounted in a safe place, and I actually had to have mine mounted in two different places, as wiring on the right fender wall prevented the same mounting point. The ballast is mounted with two sided tape, that sticks so well you will have to use a heat gun to remove it, if you ever did in the future.

Everything else was pretty easy, and the worst part was taking out the plastic fender wells.

Here are some high resolution and low resolution pics of the lights, and the beam pattern, which will get some adjusting, as they are a tad low. The ground in front is not even either, and the car was at a slight angle.

The lights look like the box says they will, with a sky blue appearance, but both cameras really don't show the bluish color too well.









On the road the lighting is MUCH better. The peripheral vision is majorly improved, as is the vision down the road. Signs are lighting up at a much greater distance, even though my headlights are still aimed a little too low.

I paid $250 for the kit, which came complete in a nice looking box, with two seperate boxes inside, and easy to understand instructions.

It was advertised on E Bay, but I picked it up from the distributor locally.

I know this isn't a very informative thread on how to convert, but it should shed some light on how smooth this kit went, and what the results look like.

I will post a before pic, with the Silver Stars in place in a few.

 

Oh yeah, too me its obvious that the pattern is better with the stock HID lenses, but its still a major improvement over stock Halogens, or the SS's!

Perhaps someone with stock HID headlights could answer this question: If you look at the second pic (drivers perspective) notice the two hot spots from the lenz? Does that exist on stock HID as well?

My converted base has that . . . I don't really like it. I aimed them up to spread the hot spot out more, but it sure isn't as nice as my BMW . . .

Did the kit appear like one of the cheap "made in china" ones on ebay, or did everything appear high quality?

 

Everything was high quality with this kit.

The projector is a bit different for the stock HID, and it should even out the light output better, but this is still a major improvement over the halogens and the silverstars.

 

Stock hid does not make those hot spots. You get them when you turn on the high beams though.
