LOL, I have a friend who is into the customization business as well, only with trucks instead of sports cars. While researching on different methods of doing this I called him up and asked for his opinion on the matter. We discussed powder-coating but we both agreed that the end result would not be the kind of high quality that I wanted for this piece. Another thing mentioned was painting which was also a problem b/c it might not match correctly. In conclusion we thought that since the piece was chrome we could put it through a light blasting process which would dull the original chrome to match the door handles perfectly then lightly polished and clear. This process would be the least expensive out of the three but also the most dangerous b/c if not done correctly it would peel the chrome and it would have to be re chromed. Luckily we know someone who is an expert on this and as you can tell with the final result it turned out great. I had the exterior of the lid done only, I thought it would look good to keep the inside chrome.

Well worth the end result. I too worried about paint and powdercoating, I tried scuffing the inside chrome with sandpaper, but got scared! You took the risk, and the reward was obviously worth it. I also looked into stripping the chrome using a chemical process, but didn't know what I would end up with, so I skipped it.

I like your CF lid as well. Quality looks excellent. Interested in seeing pics of the rest of the car

Pics will be forthcoming. I have soooo much to finish and zero time, but I will try to get some soon. Mine looks like a beauty mark like Cindy Crawford has.

Sandblasting is a good idea. In fact, a gunsmith would be able to do that very nicely. They often use suger instead of sand for a finish.

On my car the stock door just didn't fit right. It looked cheap.
