greddy side skirt, does that vent actually do anything?

greddy side skirt, does that vent actually do anything?
does it direct air to the rear tires to help cool the brakes or is it just for show and effectivly increasing drag?

and when running under rain, all the dirty stuff will splash up your door because of that vent (if they are functional)

the vent is open so I'm sure you can modify the rear fenderwell area to run a brake cooling hose.
