are the vents functional and actually suck hot air out from the front brakes or are they just for show?

1. Don't buy it. They have huge problem with fitment
2. I doubt the vent is functional.
3. If the vent is functional, expec when you're driving under rainning condition, all the dirty stuff will splash back to your door.

If you are looking to buy a set already fitted, you should have no problem. I saw a set of these for sale on this forum the other day, I think they were CS too. Are you buying those?

You could drill a hole in the frame....

I just put the side skirts on.
Both vents on the side skirts ARE functional...unlike most other kits (EX: Greddy.)
The skirts look beautiful and I plan to get the fenders in the (hopefully near) future.
I am sure the vents are open to the inside...but I don't know where they vent the air from. Very doubtful it's from the engine, most likely to the tires and brakes.

honestly, i don't care if they are functional because they are sweet looking, i say if you can pick up a used set that will be worth it. If you leave your stock fender on, that isn't functional either so....
vents are an aggressive look, functional or not I am sure you could make them functional somehow...

they are used to help cool down the brakes. However in this case I doubt the placment of the open part would help with cooling.
at least they look kinda neat.

You should also NEVER use the word NEVER, unless you know what you are talking about. The SLR Mclaren has its engine forward of the passenger cabin (although still considered mid engined) and has huge side vents used to vent air from the engine and forward mounted exhaust system.
ditto for the 550 maranello

Very few production cars have vents that direct air to the brakes only supercars. Those that do get their air from the front of the car. Side vents at the front of the car are used to let hot air out of the enginge compartement.

As far as a production car with vents like these that really works is the corvettes. My 1999 vette had a small vent in the front bumber with a duct that went right behind the wheel well aimed toward the brakes then it has a vent on the other side that comes out of the fender.
If your truly looking for a vented front fender your best bet would be to have the stock fenders custom modified w/ vents. That way the fitment will be perfect, and in the long run you'll probaly be happier w/ customs due to the fact that their unique and a shop can probably do the work in half the time of prepping the Sarona fenders.
