How NOT to Adjust Your Headlights Correctly.
Here is how NOT to properly adjust your headlights.
1) Purchase service manual.
2) Follow service manual instructions.
Follow these simple instructions and you too can have your headlights pointing 1 inch in front of your car as you "Upper" and "Upper" (see diagram below) them, wondering why they are not going up.
One of my first jobs in the computer industry was translating computer owner manual Engrish to actually understandable text.
I'll give it a go here. In this lovely diagram to "Upper" means to lower the headlight beam and to "Lower" means to raise the headlight beam.
This is why Nissan should not write its own manuals and should instead let an outside company like Bentley write them. The Nissan service manual is a joke. It consists of helpful instructions like, "to remove the widget, remove the widget."

Not to mention that the instructions don't say what size screw driver to use or give any helpful hints about what to do and in fact only say the exact opposite of what to do. But hey, no body is perfect.

Maybe they meant "upper" to *raise* the rear portion of the headlight, thus aiming the headlight down.
It's all about point of view. Like in first person shooter games, I always use an inverted y-axis for my mouse or controller.
Some people would argue that an inverted y-axis is "WRONG" where in fact it is derived from flight simulators of yesteryear...

Not to steal the thread...
THe the inverted y-axis is the "REAL" way airplanes fly, and its even more natural as if you were to look down your body moves forward and the mouse moves "up".

thanks......
I was talking about how the usage of inverted y-axis for FPS games might be explained by people who grew up playing flight simulators.
Some people who start out playing FPS tend to think that using inverted y-axis is "wrong."
blahahalihahiwhahaofwohawfuhoufhawouh ok enough of this chitter chatter

For the diagram to be as you say the circular arrows would have to be nearly perpendicular to the plane of the top of the screwdriver. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense artistically or spatially.
Or if you see the arrows as I do with the white being in the front and the black in the back then having the labels on the contrary side to it's associated arrow is just absurd. But so is calling "raise" "upper."
The sad thing is all they had to do was SAY what they meant but this just again points to the poor quality of the manual.
"To adjust your headlights, guess what this diagram is supposed to mean."

Fond on almost every page of a British car manual "Assemble in reverse"
Actually, the part I really like about the Nissan manual is that it does not have torque tables for a section but instead has pictures of things with torque settings near them on some pages and torque settings for other things in the descriptive text.
