i tried asking on one site and they all chased me off because i wanted to modify a light on my car... apparently a really big deal to them

The problem with that is that it only would set each LED step to ON for one clock cycle. You could look into using latches to get them to stay high until the cycle is over.

interested as well, or a simple diy. although its probably similar to almost every other sequential signal diy out there
