From what i have read and seen you have to cut the battery and/or fluid covers for the hood to close right. They look nice but i dont want to do all that work.

You don't have to cut the covers. You cut the other plastic pieces that the covers attach to. Or, you just remove all the plastic!

Me too. I had other hood shocks before and had to cut the pieces. Now, I ordered the stock plastic so I can put it back to normal since I got rid of the shocks. 1 step forward, 2 back

Having hood shocks is cool, something nissan and infiniti should have done I think from the get go on the Z and G. I never got around to it, because I just don't feel like cutting my covers. I'm too lazy for it, but it's not hard to do at all. Also, if you have a CF hood, it's not really recomended, because some hoods may be too weak at the mounting point or too light, and the shock may put too much pressure on the skeleton portion of the hood, creating cracking issues. I am contemplating on the hood shocks for my car, since my stillen hood is actually reletively heavy, around stock weight.

if you guys wait a week or two, i am currently developing a hood spring system that might not have any modifications to the plastic covers....or even the car itself. i am waiting on the springs and mounting brackets to arrive.

Sweet! Keep us posted! I was looking into the shocks but never liked the fact you had to modify the plastic panels.

Nissan should have put them on these cars standard. My 1990 Supra Turbo had them, they're very convenient. I mean I have a touring model and for a 32K + sports car something like hood dampers should be standard.

I have the TEIN's and modded them so you dont have to cut anything. Yes its on a G BUT it would be the same on a Z. Drill a hole in the fender jamb.I did a DIY on these but Im having trouble finding it.

i think the Z's have less clearnace under the hood than the Gs. it's a tight fit. well my current plans are to have NO drilling or modification to any part of the car. i wont know for sure until all my parts arrive sometime later this week. here's hoping i took good measurements!

I ordered a set of Tein's dampers and think I have away to minimize damage to the rubber piece:
(1) Remove the rubber piece and have the dampers installed
(2) Take a piece of thin cardboard and lay the rubber piece on top.
(3)Trace out a pattern
(4) Lay the cardboard pattern in the enginge bay and make a single straight line cut in the cardboard which allows the pattern to fit around the damper
(5) Once the pattern is in place mark the area where the damper meets the pattern ( make it just large enough to fit around the damper)- be conservative
(6) Once that is done cut out the marked area and place the pattern down again with the cuts, cut just a little at a time until the fit is snug, it may take a few tries to get it snug
(7) Once you are satisfied lay the pattern over your original rubber piece and make your cut. If done correctly one cut should be needed.

What do you think?? Sound like a plan??

there was one guy on here that basically did that. It worked, but you still have to cut up your plastic. I am trying to make a set where you don't have to do that. If my plan doesnt work, then I think its almost impossible without making your own crazy brackets and/or getting some super skinny gas springs
