All hid bulbs over time lose luminescence.

So yes, they do. In fact, the perceived color also changes.

that sucks. so i guess the cheap $80 ebay HID D2R bulbs will fade or "lose luminescence" sooner than phillips or high quality name brand bulbs, right?

Philips are the best in my opinion.
As the bulb gets older they will turn slightly bluer.
The 4300k will kinda look kike 5000k after some use (when they are brand new they are really white, after some time they will have a hint of blue).

Yes, HID bulbs will start losing their light "spectrum" after some time. You wouldnt notice it, untill you put your car next to one which has new bulbs, and even then, the difference would still be hard to perceive with the naked eye

usually when only one bulb needs to be replaced.....for instance if only one of your headlights gets smashed and the other doesnt need to be replaced.....the broken light will be replaced with a bulb at atleast 5000k to try and match how much the other one has faded. though it depends on the age of the original bulbs. some people end up just buying 2 new ones at 4300k
