Default Worn Drivers seat.. How to handle??

Let me start by saying I ALREADY USED THE SERACH BUTTON.
Now with that said, I'll get to my point
I have an 03 ss 6mt and the drivers seat is very frayed. I had Fred Beans Nissan look at it and quote me a price of $500+ to repair.
The first time I tried to have them address the issue they ignored the TSB I printed and placed on the seat, they also did nothing to address the issue when I was speaking directly to the guy at the service counter. The second time I took the car back to them for the gas hose recall, the car was out of warranty and now it will cost me over 500$ to have them repair it.
Not very pleased with that but I can still sleep by telling myself it wouldnt have been covered anyhow.

Shame on you Fred Beans Nissan in Limerick
Here are my options as I see it:

1) Pay Nissan to replace their defective materials on the side bolsters $500.00+ install. (I would have gladly paid for the installation had Nissan offered to replace their defective seats)

2) Get some seat cover to cover the problem and not really fix it $300+ Looked at the WetOkole seat covers in neoprene, nice.. but expensive and it doesnt really solve the problem

3) Try to obtain replacement covers myself and redo the seats myself $500
Ive never apolstered seats so anyone with experience please reply with recomendations ie "dont be stupid and try to do it yourself"

4) Try to obtain used 350z leather seats, (good luck finding used leather seats within driving distance since no one wants to be bothered with shipping seats) $800-$1200 on average

5) I found a local company who re-apolsters seats in katzkin leather for $895 for both seats $50-$100 for two tone colors

Another local shop quoted me $200 to remove tha bad area of fabric and patch it with a piece of leather but I think that would look like A$$

Im leaning towards option 5 but I would appreciate anyones input on the issue.

I would go with #5 then you can do some custom work. Any patch work would look like azz. Be sure you see a few samples of the guys work. 90% of the final product is the craftsmanship.

I've re-upholstered seats in my last car (tan with black perforated inserts) and it looked great. Let me know if you want to see a pic.

FWIW the Nissan "fix" isn't that great. They just replace the fabric on the side bolsters...nothing more. It looks similar but doesn't match perfectly.

My advice is to leave Nissan out of the equation since you're past warranty. Check local Z's for someone who is putting in Bride or Recaros and you can maybe get their old seat for cheaper than any of you above options. Worth a try at least.

Sure I will post it later when I get home. It wasn't in a Z though, it was an '86 Carrera. I went to a local shop and it was all custom done.

I have been to local Z meets and seen exceptional seat covers. Do the same and talk to the owners.

I would recomend you go to nissanhelp.com annd print out the Technical service bulletin and hand it to them. Dont set it on the seat and expect them to address it.

As promised these are my re-upholstered seats for my old '86 Carrera (done 8 years ago). Sorry for the crappy pics but this was before digital cameras. Also, its hard to tell but the black inserts are perforated.

In total this cost me less than $1000 CAD (just under $1000 US).

sounds like another craptastic dealer. first off they are required to take care the recall at no cost to you regardless of your warranty status. second, find another dealer, these guys sound like rip-off artists. I'd try to go to a few other dealers, give them the TSB and tell them it was a pre-existing problem prior to your warranty running out. at worse they'll tell you no right? if that doesn't work, then I'd either buy some used OEM cloth or leather seats. I've seen the cloth ones sold for $200-$300 and you can just install them yourself.

What color is your seat? Some leather is easier to match than others.

I will sell you my old fabric, this will be your cheapest option.

I gently removed it after about 5k miles and replaced with leather.

My driver seat was the same way I was going to purchase racing seats, but I took the route of getting them wrapped. I did it in a leather two-tone silver in the middle black on the outside turned out really well only paid $450. Sorry tried to upload my pics but wouldn't come through to big try the link.

Does your car have to be under warrenty for a TSB to be done? I thought the purpose of them was to fix known problems with the car; warranty should have nothing to do with it. Deff. go to another dealer.

I had mine done (TSB) and they replaced the entire driver's side seat cover and reinforced the padding of the left bolster.

the TSB is just a notice to dealer to advise them of a known issue, they are not obligated to fix it under warranty. however some nice dealers will still do it.

I had the fraying happening on my driver's seat on my 03 model. Spoke with the service manager after the regular service tech said they wouldn't replace it. Showed the service manager the TSB that I had printed out, just like the original poster and they replaced it.

You shouldn't have let the dealer push you around. Tsk. Tsk.

TSB's were created for this purpose!
