I would like anyone who wants to see a targa top or a t- top version of the 350Z put their name and a comment. I would love to see this! After so many we will send it to Nissan and annoy them until they answer. Please get yours in a.s.a.p.

p.s. sounds like a photoshop job!

I loved the t-tops on the Z32 back in the day. I'd love to have that same option today. What a better way to enjoy the Cali sun. Too impatient to wait for the conv. Oh well, I'll keep dreaming...

I've owned 4 cars with t-tops, so don't think I don't love 'em. I thought the photoshop going around of the lemanz targa was hot! Unfortunately, putting t-tops or a targa top on the Z would destroy chassis rigidity. Guys buying convertibles aren't going to be concerned about that too much, but the other versions are all about perforrmance, and cutting rigidity out of the top of the car would hurt performance. I can honestly say that I loved taking the tops out and going for a cruise in my 280zx's and my 300zx, but I think if I'm going to pony up the dough for performance, I don't want either on my 350z. Just my opinion, but I have a sneaky feeling that it was Nissan's opinion too.
FWIW,
Tony

u kno what would be really cool? i don't think it is possible to do it, but a hardtop convertable like the one the new benz SL has. Seeing the car go from a a regular car to a convertable and back is just wow tho i voted for the targa top, if they made a hardtop convertable, then i would definately go for that

Default maybe it is...

You know, nobody's seen the roadster with the top up yet, so for all we know it IS a retractable hard top...

They've been awfully careful not to let it be spotted with the top up.

hmmm...

Well reen, that's because in order to keep the cost down and not "stray from the original vision" evident in the first z-car, Nissan has had to make the painful decision to forgo a roof for the convertible. Much like the abundance of plastic in the interior, the absence of a roof allows for more money to be spent in R&D to make the car go faster and perform better, without costing the consumer valuable dollars that he could spend on various upgrades such as JDM Fairlady Z emblems and the like. Although, there is an optional Aero-kit II package for the convertible, which includes a driver chin-spoiler, as well as a head-mounted wind-resistor/massager. Although, the Nismo alternative to this is worth it, as it is Titanium and features a teardrop design that won't void your warranty, and will be available in the next 2-3 months.

I need to sleep...

Hey Reen,

I saw their test mule driving down PCH a couple weeks ago with the top up. It was navy blue top on a silverstone body. The top looked like a prototype, mainly because the fit wasn't perfect - nor did it have a glass window (EVERYONE has glass rear windows these days). All told they kept the lines of the car remarkably similar to the coupe. But it is a soft-top. I'm sure within months of the convertible's release there will be hardtop add-ons, but those won't be retractable. (just a guess, considering how good the aftermarket has been to the Z so far).

But yes, I have seen it. It is a rag top. Sorry.
