Top Secret Light Weight Hood Dampers (pics)
I finally found a set of hood dampers that can be used on lightweight carbon fiber or FRP hoods AND no major cutting of the plastic brake and battery covers. The only cutting necessary is a small half circle on the outter edge of the plastic covers for the mounting bolt. This is a very simple install.
I had previously tried using the dampers from NRG Innovations and CTG/Courtesy Nissan but they were too stiff for a lightweight hood and could eventually cause cracks. I didn't want to take any chances. I could feel a slight yet noticeable difference between these dampers. These also seemed a little beefier than the other two options. The dampers are not cheap (about $350) but definitely work well on my Veilside V3 fiberglass hood. Also, these hood dampers for the G35 but they work perfect on the Z as well. I purchased them from www.driftfactory.com. Oh yeah, eventually these will be painted to match the color scheme of the car.

how much lighter is your hood compared to stock?
a majority of the hoods i've seen actually weigh more than stock...
i'm curious if the NRG or the courtesy ones were overvalved.. are you meaning that the hood flexes when you try to close it, hence the cracks?
$350 is stiff for replacement of a $5 homedepot dowel! hehe ;P

Also, I know it was expensive but the hood prop just plain sucks. If I placed it in the stock location hole when raised my hood would be very crooked. The slighest wind could knock it off and cause damage. This actually happened at the Spring Break Nationals but luckily the hood was caught before it came back down. Also, if I stuck the prop in the middle opening (hood latch) it was starting to dent the hood especially in the hot Florida sun. In the end, pricey but effective. And now I can say I have some Top Secret stuff on my car. hehe
