Default Cost to paint engine cover and battery/master cylinder covers?

My Z will be going into the body shop next week to replace/repaint the rear bumper. I was rear-ended a couple months ago, and although the damage is very minor and barely visible (just three small vertical creases on the bumper and a broken attachment tab underneath), I figured I would fix it anyway because insurance is paying for it.

Since the car will be in the shop already and since they will have to mix the paint to match the bumper, I figured why not have them paint the engine and battery/master cylinder covers as well (like in the picture below). Shouldn't be more than a couple additional hours of labor (to prep the pieces for painting) and a little more paint material, right?

I have not looked at it yet, but I assume the Nissan "hamburger" logo on the engine cover can be removed from underneath. (is this correct?) Does anyone know what the approximate cost for this should be? Any issues with regular body paint fading due to heat from the engine?

Thanks.

A good shop would charge you next to nothing to spray those tiny items if they're painting your car anyway. Don't let them screw you!

I checked my photos and found several examples of engine bay detailing. Some of the best work is being down by guy from Florida named Zpresence. You might check the regional forum. A local paint shop can do it, but don't expect the results above.

I just bought my center console from a member on here, and it was painted be ZPeresence. Looks great. I will be sending him some stuff to have painted as well. Prices seem good as well.

again, you pay for what you get. I had my same covers painted as you are asking about, nothing special just the color of my car, and they did it for $65... this was back in april... i noticed a couple weeks ago the paint is peeling off of the main engine cover... so i bought a carbon fiber cover... i may sand off the paint and just paint it flat black with caliper paint to have as an extra or sell... don't know... but it may be a bigger pain that its worth if its done cheaply

I've painted a few of these in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I charge about $200.00 for all three pieces depending on the cost of your paint. These are a couple covers I've done. Airbrush work is extra ofcourse.

Damn people make a killing off these. I would spray them for much less than what people charge. I would do these all day for $150 for the set. I know someone before said they paid aroun $300 for just the two back covers. That's rediculous.

Make sure it's a reputablt shop though, plastic must be prepped properly for paint to stick well.

Save your $$$s -- this is a simple DIY project. I painted the two small back covers, along with the three fluid covers, for around $10. I have yet to paint the engine cover, which is my next project. All you need is a can of paint adhesor (?), can of colored paint and a can of clear coat. I sprayed the covers at least three coats for each stage.

I'll post pics tonight. The colors are almost the same as the third picture on post #9 above, except my engine cover is still black.

Here is the picture of my engine bay with the recently painted covers in the rear (battery & brake fluid covers). I also painted the three fluid reservoir covers on the bottom left corner of the picture (power steering, windshield wiper & engine coolant). I painted them on Friday night, let them dry on Saturday and took my Z to an autocross yesterday. Even with the engine heat after seven runs at the autocross (and with after-market headers), everything looks great. I have nine (9) coats total (three coats of paint adhesor, three coats of colored paint and three coats of clear coat). And it only cost me around $10 at Walmart.

I will be painting the engine cover this weekend, along with my brake calipers. I got a red brake caliper paint kit for $15 at Autozone. Another worthwhile but inexpensive DIY project. Between these two projects, I'm only spending around $25 instead of $300-$400 to have someone else paint them.
