SO got my hood today and it is damaged. YOu can see the dent and chip out of the CF dead center about 1.5-2 inches above where the latch is. My body shop signed for it so I may be getting stuck with the bill----last resort. If I do should I worry about stress fractures from opening and closing if I decide not to paint it. If i decide to paint it should I just leave the intakes CF and paint the rest to match my PPW??? Give me some good suggestions to brighten up my day!

 

Can you post a pic further away so I can see where it's at? I can't really tell by your description. If it's on the leading edge of the hood, it should be fine structurally; you'll want to use hood pins anyway. If you haven't mounted the hood yet, you may find you have trouble getting it to latch properly, anyway; I've seen some cut the latch loop off entirely and just use the hoodpins to secure the hood (get the locking kind if security is an issue).

As for painting and whatnot, if you want to keep the hood CF and that chip is just on the leading egde, you could just have that chip patched up with resin and then paint a very small black strip accross the front of the hood on the leading edge just thick enough to cover the chip. You'd hardly notice it, the damage would be covered and you'd still have a full CF hood showing.

I'd still try to talk to the seller and/or shipping company to see if you can get the issue resolved that way, though.

 

I am talking with the shipper and shipping co. Shipping co I am dissapointed in but the seller is a good guy and trying to help me out. The chip is right on where it bends under. I can't post a pick because it is too large but I could email you. Where and what kind of resin would I patch it with?

 

I had the same prob. with my TS, the underside of those hoods are pretty stucturally sound, sorry to here it though.

 

Next question! Is it important to get hood pins?

 

Check fitment without pins first. If you feel comfortable with it and its nots moving you should be fine without. However I always recommend pins with any aftermarket hood.

As for your shipping. The seller should have had insurance on the hood, if he did call the carrier (the sooner the better) and you will have to file the claim. For as big and fragile as these packages are you should always check them before signing for them and especially before installing them.

You'd just patch it with a little fiberglass resin, then sand it smooth. After that, you can mask off a thin strip accross the very leading edge of the hood and spray it black with a can of spray paint. DIY will be much cheaper than having a shop do it for you.

 

THanks Jim. I did file a claim. The problem was my body shop signed for it. They said they guy kinda ran out real quick. I can see why once I saw the package. Mistake by the body shop. My issue is the body is doing a lot of work and helping me out so I am really trying not to pin it on them. Especially since they'll have my car for another 2-3 weeks!

 

Thanks for the advice, I may just do this, drive it for a while and if it gets worse or chips up, paint PPW to match.

 

You can still file a claim if it was signed for...but the longer you wait the slimmer your chances of them claiming the damage. You can always paint it like this

 

I saw this pic a while back and that's where I got the idea! I like but I'm not sure I want to go that route. I already filed a claim about 15 mins. after delivery.

Sorry to hear your misfortune. I have the same hood. I went back & forth about whether to paint or notr paint. IN the end I did paint it nad had the shop block off the vent so now the vents are carbon and the rest body color. Don't worry it will look nice. Here's a pic of my Z:

Z350boy thanks I was actually thinking of doing something similar to that if I got the same hood. I was picturing it but since I can actually I must say it looks very nice.

 

your UY z is beautiful, BUT! remove the light covers, put some o.e.m or carbon craft mirrors on and i would venture to say you would have the best looking UY z i have ever seen.
