Default Looking for best hood struts with a CF Hood

Hey Guys,

well the stock hood stick (whatever) is starting to wrap my hood and I need some hood struts that will work with a CF hood, so that my hood doesnt fall to one side when the hood is up.

experiences and where I can find the product

and would like little to no modification

Thanks

A while back I remember seeing some teins... I dont remember how much modding is required to fit these on (since I dont have them personally). Hope that helps...

Mine are not to strong....you lift the hood up completely after poping the latch and about a little over halfway up then it takes over from their gently - i honestly believe it will work for CF hoods no problem! the gas strut is only a 45 lb one so its not to strong and you can order a weaker one if you want.

its a fun DIY project!

I would think any struts that work on the stock hood will work on a CF one... There is almost no difference in weight.

true in that they both weight close to the same amount but the CF hood will flex much more then the stock hood will. so if your struts are to strong they will crack your hood

to much of a hassle, there has to be a low force strut that is just enough to push the hood up but not do any damage to the hood it-self

I dont think the pushing it up is what you need to worry about with the CF. It is the closing that is going to get you. Even with a lower pressure shock it is going to add stress to the CF eventually cracking either the clear coat or the CF itself.

Ya, thats what I was talking about its the force when its in the process of being closed and closed all together, thats Im worried about. But the thing is that the hood is starting to bend off to the right because of the hood stick only holding up one side

The Teins have nothing to do with stressing the hood. They are mounted to the bracket for the hood. I don't see any way they could stress the hood.

I have teins now with OEM hood and waiting on my FG hood to be painted. what I am planing is to drill out the teins to release the pressure and use a small pin though the hole to hold the hood up. I cant see buying new ones and I have color matched mine so didnt want to repaint. I have done this with the rear hatch and works fine. Just dont loose those pins.

^Seems like more work than using the stock hood prop.

no such product exists....every damper will need modding or removal of the plastic shrouds in order to fit due to engine bay design

with a carbon hood, your best bet is no damper at all unless you have a real carbon hood (not a typical seibon type fiberglass/carbon). The reason the stock prop makes most hoods bend is that most aftermarket carbon hoods are heavier than stock. The ones lighter than stock won't do this (mine doesnt as it weighs about 1/2 of what the stock hood does), though the flipside is they are about 2 -3 x the cost
