Default Urethane headlight sealant??

Just wondering if anyone knows the best kind of sealant to use for sealing headlights. (keep out water) I read on some other post to use a self leveling urethane sealant as it works better than just regular permatex silicone stuff. I bought some 'PL polyurethane self leveling concrete crack sealant' at home depot. I'm assuming that will work fine, but if there is a better alternative please someone clue me in. TIA

If silicone can keep water in aquariums, I'm sure it'll keep water out of your headlights just fine...

make sure the sealant or silicone has some heat resistance to it.

THE only thing about the silicone is that it is hard to flow into the little cracks and crevices. That's why the self-leveling was recommended as it will get in there a lot better. I've used the silicone in the past, but had to do it like f-ing 3 times...and I spent a lot of time each time, thinking "surely this will fix it." it eventually did but - it took 3 times!! oh well, maybe there's no way to get around that?

I found it in the 'paint' department. You'll need a caulking gun though. It seems to have worked really well and was easy to work with. If you get some somwhere on your light that you don't want it to be, it wipes off cleanly and easily. Oh, but you don't need to put a ginormous bead though, as it's self-leveling and therefore can be a little runny. - One more thing, the kind I got only seemed to come in a grey color, and since I have an aftermarket hood, you can see some of the grey seams, so you might want to get some touch up paint and paint where the grey would be visible w/ the hood shut. (what I'm going to do) Good luck!

just go to autozone and get the RTV silicone in a blue or white container. Get the one that is water proof. I have used them on two headlights and they have worked perfect

Does the urethane remelt in the oven or is it permanent? Just in case you need to pull your headlights apart again

fwiw, the urethane I used, right down to the exact color, was exactly the same as the stock sealant that was used on my oem civic headlights. I pulled them apart myself using a heat gun and remember it vividly....so this stuff appeared to be exactly the same. ha, so to answer your question, there is no doubt in my mind the urethane will melt just like stock sealant. but in light of the new butyl rubber at nissan, unless it's $50 an ounce, I say stick w/ stock! (plus it's black)
