Lightbulb InStant Fill replacement gas cap. Bad idea?

I am thinking about getting this for the Z. I hate removing the gas cap and letting it hang there and scratch my paint. This seems like this would work great.

Refueling is now quicker and cleaner than ever.

Removing a gas cap can be a difficult, dirty task. And replacing one after you forget about it and drive away can be expensive. The InStant Fill's trap door mechanism accommodates the gas nozzle, eliminating the hassle of removing and replacing the cap each time you refuel. With the InStant Fill fuel cap, just insert the nozzle fully and squeeze the trigger. You’ll never touch a fuel cap again! Four different models fit over 80% of the cars on the road in North America and InStant Fill meets onboard diagnostic (OBD) emission specifications, so it will not trigger the "check engine" light on late model vehicles. Not recommended for use in areas where vapor recovery nozzles are used.

Does anyone have this already? Does anyone think it would be a terrible idea?

Thanks,

I think it's a neat idea. But honestly unless you are trying to make a pit stop out of your fill up, i'd leave it how it is. I know our cars rely on a certain amount of pressure in the tank. And i think if that cap leaks even a little it will cause issues with the venting etc. of the gas tank. SO probably more trouble then it's worth. My 2 cents.

I see your point. I am interested in it completely for the paint saving. Both my Sentra and my Frontier had a plastic holder that the gas cap would clip into on the inside of the fuel door. This was so much nicer than the tether system the Z has. I hate the thought of the gas cap sliding along my paint, especially when the car is dirty.

I could just cut the tether off and set the cap on the pump, but I though InStant Fill cap would be easier and eliminate the risk of forgetting the cap. For $15, I am thinking about pulling the trigger and giving it a shot.

your fuel door doesn't have a hook for the gas cap? mine does... there is a ring of sorts where the strap connects to the gas cap that i put onto the hook on the gas door

My car has the ring thing to to hang it up. Although it can be a PITA to hook it on. I kind of like this lil gadget. Let me know how it turns out.

Same here. Give it a try though and let us know. Can't be more than 20 bucks.

i would not trust that it will prevent the check engine light to come on. I had to use a replacement cap for a few days once and that still caused my light to come on.

If you don't like you gas cap to hang down then just take off the plastic strap that holds it on. If your in a state where they pump your gas for you(im in NJ i don't have to any of it) then the guy will put your cap on top of the pump instead of just letting it lay there

I have considered the tether delete. However, this seems like it would be way more convenient.

Full service gas stations are a thing of the past (for the most part) here in Michigan.

I have heard that AutoZone will turn off the light for you for free. The dealer tried to charge me $70 once to turn it off when I had my Sentra. I complained and he eventually did it for free.

Not in Oregon. They get pissed at you if you try and fillup your own gas.

Not recommended for use with vapor recovery nozzles... your gas station probably has these.

Michigan gas stations are not required to have these type of nozzles. Apprently environmentalists are pissed about it too. Seems like Michigan is one of the last states to mandate the use of vapor recovery systems. WTG Michigan

Most IN pumps don't have gas recovery sleeves. Are you an environmentalist or something Zeeanswer? Why are you driving a Z instead of a Civic Hybrid?
