Drilling CF?

Drilling CF?
Has anyone tried drilling a CF Hatch? I wanted to put a spoiler on a CF hatch. Would the hatch be able to support the weight? Also how easy does CF crack when drilling into it?

That would be tricky. You would need a steady hand and a set of very sharp bits. If I was to attempt it, I'd progress to a 3/8 hole with at least 4 bits at an appropiate RPM that comes from experience. Iv never drilled CF, I dont think---- and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but afterwords I would seal the perimeter of the hole with fiberglass resin applied with a toothpick maybe to stop a run from moisture than would lift the gel coat.
I dont know how this would work with CF, But in some tricky materials, I have drilled a smaller pilot hole, clamped a tapered punch in a vise gripe, and heated it red hot, then pushed it in the hole til I achieved my desired diameter.
That works well with rubber or leather, plastics (dash penatrations)

unless u create sum sort of support for them underneath. and u would hav 2 use a very fast drill bit to avoid cracking it

Maybe reinforce the area where you plan on drilling with some fiberglass mat and resin on the bottomside? The main thing you need to be worried about is the wind hitting it at high speeds or greedy thieves that just walk by and rip it right off. Just some food for thought. Best bet would be to talk to Seibon and ask them since it's their hatch.
