Default HID Color Temp

Okay so i searched for an hour before posting. sorry if this is a repost but none of the posts seem to answer my question.

I want to replace my HID bulbs with something that is more blue. I really like a deep blue headlight, but i don't want to go too far and look honda-ish.
the debate is between 6000K or 8000K. dont know which one i want to put in.

Useable light isnt really an issue. Im afraid that the 6000 will just be plain white. what does everyone else have/ think?

I want to do a halogen conversion on my car, that will make it stand out. I have only seen one other Z without HID's.

If useable light isn't an issue, you should just go 12000k and post up when you end up in a ditch Stock FTW

Useable light not an issue? Just ditch the headlights altogether.

Seriously though, everytime you move away from ~4300k, the worse the light and the ricier you get.

imo, 6000k to 6500k looks pretty clean. not rice. The lower the K the more visibilty/functionality. the higher K the less effective the light is when driving at night.

Go with 6000k If you want a nice deep rich blue color. 8000k is when you lights start to look a little purple. 12000k FTL just too purple and ghey. Just stick with the 6000k any more than that you'll start to look ricey

I think 4500 or 5000k is the best. but none of the manufacturer makes those..

LMAO

But on a serious note I think 6000k is the best of both worlds. I've had 4500, 6000k, 8000k, 10000k on varous cars and 6000k was the best for light output and looks.

Default HID's

I did a HID conversion on my Z. I went with 8000's and I think they look awesome. You don't lose enough usable light to notice, but your lights are bluer than the stock HID's and make you stand out. When I'm next to anyone with stock HID's, the blueness from my lights make the stocks look like halogens.

Before/Stock

After/8000k HID's

the question is, are these two cars parked at the same distance from the garage?

You can't argue with the facts, it may "look" like no loss, but the specs from the manufacturers themselves indicate at least 25% less lumens, but they must be lying right, making their product look worse than it actually is, thats a great marketing strategy

I never said a word about what the manufacturers say. I said there isn't enough of a difference to notice. And, if you read his original question, he said he doesn't care about usable light lose. I'm just giving my opinion, from experience, so just calm down.

Greddy4Nismo - The car was parked pretty close to the same spot for both pictures. I may have been off by a few inches, but that wouldn't make much of a difference, at least i don't think it would.

Not sure how you can post these pics and say that you don't lose useable light. You can see a huge difference in your pics alone.

i can post a comment like that because i've seen the results in person. Looking at pictures on a computer screen can make a huge difference in appearance just by your computer monitor settings. On my monitor and in person, you can see the major difference in the two, HID's producing way more light. You can try to argue with me all you want, but either way, HID's produce more light than halogens, and thats what i replaced. Until you see it in person, you are arguing about something that you don't know about. When i switched to the HID's, I and everyone else that saw the new lights agreed they make such a huge improvement in the amount of light. HID's will produce more light than halogens, and that is all there is to it. Sorry if you disagree, but that's the facts.

I recently installed some '07 MrZipps with 6000k bulbs and LED parking lights, and I am so glad that I did!

The color is fantastic. It is nice and blue-tinted but not ricey. I know a lost a few lumens with the higher color temperature, but switching from the older HID's to the new ones more than made up for the difference by putting more usable light on-target.

In the end, I have very noticably bluer lights, but are clear and bright and more focused than any I've seen.

Rather than looking "purplish" and ricey, they are bright and clearly white lights, with a beautiful blue corona and a blue-to-purple cut-off line. While the total output may be less, they are so much more focused, concentrating the available light to the road and my peripherals, that the amount of usable lumens is a vast improvement over my previous HID's.

When I'm alone on Highway 59 at night, my new projectors light up the freeway reflectors all the way to the horzion, brighter than I've ever seen them at night in any car. While doing this (function) they emit a great bluish hue that leaves no doubt to on-coming traffic that I have the good stuff (form).

Go for the 6000k. It is safer, less of a cop magnet, looks classier, AND YOU CAN SEE, which is kinda important from the perspective of the driver. It's almost like a responsibility or something.
